Vpn Dropouts

Featured Replies

G'day,

When I connect my laptop directly to the ADSL modem (TP-Link TD-8810), the VPN connection is very stable. However, if I go through my wireless router (DLINK DIR-655) which routes through the modem, the connection always drop out after about 3 minutes.

Anyone with a similar experience? I tried everything from DMZ to port forwarding but nothing works.

The VPN client is just Vista.

thanks

Matt

Since you already have a router (TPlink) on your ADSL line, having another router between your adsl router and your wifi network is not necessary.

So setup the DLink as a bridge/accesspoint (leave the WAN port alone, connect the UTP line to one of the LAN ports). Only configure the WiFi part and an IP address for your accesspoint. No PPP or NAT or anything else.

This way, all ports on both devices and WiFi belong to the same logical network (OSI layer 3), making it way easier to troubleshoot your VPN issue.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I found some unrelated posts on the net and set up my TPLink as the bridge like you suggested (but on the modem). It is working flawlessly now.

Thanks

Matt
