Sound Levels Decreasing On Vista

Help!

This just started today.

For some reason the sound level on Vista is decreasing. When I open the Volume Mixer I can see the levels going down. It looks like the old Star Trek medical monitor when someone is laying on the medical bed and their life signs are ending. :o Any help would be appreciated.

This happens with the speakers or the built-in speakers of the laptop. I restarted the laptop and the problem still occurs.

As of now, the sound is working. Not sure why, but it is working and maybe this was a one-off thing. However, if someone has an idea about this I would appreciate a post as this might happen again.
