I have posted a similra topic on travle page but looking for advice in tandem with my visa. I am returning to Thailand to be with my gf and am looking to go out about March 09. However not sure when I will be returning and dont envisage returning until about May 2010. I am looking to obtain a multi entry visa which allows me to stay in Thailand with extensions and border runs for up to 270 days ( I think ) but if i purchase a return ticket on March 02 2009 I have to return to the UK before March 01 2010.

But then i would have to buy another return ticket coming back from BKK in May 2010.

I have looked at the Thai Asia website and can get a single flight for 229 pounds flying to KL and then i could get a single to BKK - my question would be would Immigration let me enter Thailand from KL with a multi entry visa but no return ticket ? And also would this cause problems when i wanted to extend my visa from 60 days to 90 days at Immigration ? and also when i crossed the border and returned back to Thailand after 90 days.?

I would then look to buy a single back to UK with ThaiASIA from KL in May 2010 ( asuming they still operate ) and then when I return again in Sept would get a normal return ticket.

Sorry for going on but reeive so much conflictiong reports would appreciate real views and experiences.

Many thanks

Dave

Suggest you get a multiple entry non immigrant visa from the Hull consulate to visit friends

Website: http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/downloads-and-visas.aspx

This visa would allow you to enter for 90 days as many times as you want for 1 year. You can stay for a total of 15 months by leaving just before the visa expires and returning.

You do not need to show return or onward tickets with any visa obtained from a consulate..

BEWARE !! Whilst this is correct -- on two recent occasions flying back into Thailand using the last leg of a return ticket ---- I was not permitted to board unless I held a ticket out of Thailand. It is apparent that the airline staff do not know or understand the regulations and this can cause problems when you are attempting to board. I hold a multiple reentry visa.

As I am about to repeat this performance I contacted my airlines customer help to obtain something which would prevent a recurrence of what I believed was an incorrect demand from them. Here are their replies over a 3 week period :

Thank you for your e-mail.

Usually If you are entering a country for a long period without a working permit or similar you are required

to have a ticket to leave that country, however as this is more a query to do with Thailand immigration

may I suggest you contact the Thai consulate who will be able to explain all this to you.

Thank you for your e-mail.

Unfortunately it is a requirement of Thailand that you have an onward flight and nothing to do with IATA or the airline.

There are heavy fines involved for QANTAS or other airlines if you do not have the correct documentation when you

arrive and this can result in you being sent back to Australia. We have attached information listed on the

qantas website in regards to documentation and visas for you to look over to ensure that it does not happen.

Dear --------------------

Thank you for your e-mail.

As per our website information as well as the information you have been given by the Thailand

Immigration you can travel on a one way ticket, you must be holding a valid passport and visa. :o

Finally ...... after several emails over three weeks they arrived at the expected advice ---- can you imagine the likelihood of successfully holding this discussion at the check-in desk ?? I sincerely hope Qantas' aircrew are better trained than their customer help staff!! :D
