Vip Match Experience

toasted

Recommended Posts

My sister and her husband were kind enough to give my son and me an Oxford United VIP matchday experience package for Christmas. This involves meeting two players of your choice. My son will choose the goalkeeper, Billy Turley, who is his hero. I'm not sure yet who to select.

Anyhow, what questions do you think we should ask them when we meet them? Straight and humourous answers appreciated.

If you know anything about the U's, who would you choose to meet and why? If you don't know much about Oxford, who would you choose to meet from your team and why?

Cheers.

Ask them if they are going to win the boat race this year :o

I think there is only Mossfin on here who can help with Oxford specific questions.

How about Captain Bob Maxwell, we all know he's still alive. :o

As for questions, I'm sure these would be perfect for a Thai related thread.

1. Whats your favourite colour?

2. How old are you?

3. Where are you from?

4. How long you live Oxford?

5. You like Oxford?

6.Whats your name?

7. You have girlfriend?

8. How much you earn?

:D

i've always been interested by who the football players' own heroes are. like which player(s) did they grow up modelling their game on? who has been their toughest opponents etc. good one to ask goalkeepers is do they wish they'd been an outfield player since every one of a 'keeper's mistakes is magnified tenfold over that of an outfield player and generally costs his team a goal. how do they deal with the added pressure and is it with the assistance of class a drugs?

I met (in order of how close /how long I had with them) :D

Arsene Wenger

Marc Overmars

Gilles Grimandi

Nicholas Anelka

whats his name Petit

and was in same room with:

Tony Adams

Ray Parlour

Marc Overmars

Arsene Wenger

(there was a 4th player...might have been Seaman...)

:D

and saw these people from a distant:

David Seaman - hes got big hands, no wonder hes a good goalie :D

the one that got me dumb-founded - Marc Overmars. if I had to say whether I have a crush on any footballer, it would be him :D absolutely the perfect gentleman :wai: (this was when I thought....da**it...that one year of hanging out with a dutch friend and I didnt learn a single dutch phase to impress my hero!)

you had beer with him?? :o

I had a swim with Arsene :D

I would loveeeeeee loveeeeeeeee to meet Bergkhamp!

(but to be honest...even today..I dont think I will have much to ask my football favs. on the other hand if I met politicians....well some of them....I would have a lot to say and discuss!)

It's not a nice thought, but Wenger would certainly be a typical speedo wearer.

MIG16, curious are you a blonde? You hanging around with so many footballers in one room might hurt / enhance your reputation. :D

Swimming with Arsene is not something to brag about IMO, rather live down one might think.

I would ask them :

1. WHEN are we going to be a real football team again?

2. WHEN am I gonna see you on the tele?

3. WHO is your OU hero

4. Do YOU remeber when Oxford were in the Championship League...it wasn't that long ago

5. What are YOU gonna do to bring back the glory days to OXFORD?

Be harsh...they are crap...it saddens me to say such a thing...and no offence to OU fans...you are so loyal to a team that has let you down badly...its called REAL SUPPORT....and you Moss and Brit are true fans,,,it would be easy to dump them and support a good team(ie Reading)...not Swindon...natuarally...but any sane and loyal OU supporter would kill himself before switching sides...quite rightly so.

Hope you have a great evening

Toasted ...ask Turley to face a penalty from your boy...I bet he does not save it !!!

ThaiPauly, the penalty idea is great. My son is the mascot, which is part of the experience, so it could well be possible. I could ask him to take one against my son, as he plays in goal too. Interesting questions - they're on Setanta fairly often, so I won't ask no. 2 though.

Talking about real fans, at the school where I work nearly all the kids support the big four. But of the staff, none do and they support teams like Norwich and Brentford. What will become of our game the way things are going?

the true evil in the world I think is the media and its commercialisation

we can blame all the war mongers for all the violence etc. but the media sensationalising things is more than a 2-edge sword.

mind you, I do appreciate the fact that without media/satellite dishes and commercial interest, I wouldnt get to watch the international level football that I get to these days.......

but......

clearly, I dont have the answers. all I can say is enjoy your moment with your team, especially your son is going to have an amazing day!

now to the poster that asked whether Im blonde.....I wonder if it would make any difference if I told you Im a blonde male?

:o

would you not take the chance to hang out with your football team, even when its off the field? how is it that StevieH didnt get any comments on having a beer with Seaman?

and yep Boston Barry. I was (still am!)...a girl from high school who was a couple year my senior...when she found me on facebook, this was what she had to say:

"I remember you __(MY NAME)____, you are the quiet, shy girl, and you were couple years my junior"

:D

Had a good chat walking to the stoke old ground, the Vic,with sir Stan Matthews. What a gentleman and a real short ass to lol.He was asking me so mnay questions there was no time to be timid or shy.

Had a bit of an arguament with Alan Hudson once, cos i accused him of being a money grabber when he left Stoke the first time.

Had a real good chinwag with big Ron Atkinson in a hotel and he was telling me of the time he sold a central defender to stoke and he had dodgy knees, but he lasted 4 years and he was well pissed off,and i took the piss out of him big style,so he bought me a double brandy/coke,great guy mr ron.The player was Ian Cranson.

Met the awesome deadly Doug Ellis and what a down to earth man he is,was very impressed with him.

Met Tommy Docherty,Terry Conroy,Bobby Robson,The Great Gordon Banks, too many to mention.

So many of the older players were down to earth, I have to say that the same doesn't apply so much these days.

One of my friends was dating Beckham, just before he want off with Dog Spice, around 1996 and he was a very nice down to earth guy.

As for top players standing out, Alan Ball was one of the best, a true gentleman and considering that he was a world cup winner, what a top bloke.
