Veazer
Has anyone seen Asus Eee boxes in Chiang Mai or BKK? I'm looking for an always on, low power solution to handle basic printer sharing, backup, etc. for a small office. The Eee box looks ideal for this. LivinLOS
What price are they selling for ?? Can they decode 1080p h264 content without stuttering ??
phazey
They can't really handle 1080p - although rumour has it the next generation with nVidia chipsets will be able to. Saying that, i've had four of these little beautys pass my hands, one as a general web browser/sons computer mounted on the back of an LCD screen (great idea - it includes the mounting bracket) and three as voip soft PBX's for my companies offices. Got mine in singapore for S$430 each.

Veazer
What price are they selling for ?? Can they decode 1080p h264 content without stuttering ?? Not a chance... I've got an Asus 1000H with essentially the same specs and i've experiemented with 720p on it a lot. the best performance is with the CoreAVC codecs using overlay renderer, and even then i occasionally (ok, rarely) get a brief moment of 720p material that bogs everything down. I've only seen it happen on two films and the bitrate was well over 50,000 when it occurred. It can handle some mpeg-4 1080p of a reasonable bitrate but i assumed that's not what you mean. Hi Veazer,There is absolutely NO problem to decode 1080p movie with actual EeeBox I do agree that it was not possible with the first model (B201) but current models B204 and B206 include an ATI Radeon HD 3400 graphic chipset and have an HDMI video output. You connect your EeeBox to your HD TV and... enjoy your 1080p home cinema PS: I do not know which EeeBox model is/are available in Thailand

I was basing it on 2 things: 1) it's definitely a no go on the Intel GMA 950. 2) The reviewers of an Asus Eee N10J (with GeForce 9300) couldn't even get it to play 720p with hardware acceleration (PureVideo codecs). That's great news that the Radeon HD 3400 is leaps and bounds better. It makes those little machine much more desirable now. I wasn't aware that Asus even had an option for discrete graphics on the Eee box.
JariB
How about the current situation? I'm trying to find EeeBox model EB1012P. Has anyone seen one of those in Bangkok or Pattaya (or anywhere not so far from Bangkok) recently?
