February 14, 200917 yr I have not found a website but some of the book stores have bi-lingual translations of general Thai law.
February 14, 200917 yr Can anyone point me to a website that explains / gives an overview of thai law in english? I tried thai law forum but it wasn't much help. (Can I say that?) Thanks. Which section of Thai law, there's many. There's one for the CIVIL & COMMERCIAL CODE, the one that most farangs find handy. There's a large format book available at ASIA BOOKS but I'd expect any of the SE-ED book shops could also order it. It has Thai on the left pages with the English on the right. Real handy for pointy-talkie on the law. Ask for: "The Civil and Commercial Code. Nittibannagarn. ISBN 974-447-303-7" Then there's this url with the English only: http://www.samuiforsale.com/Civil_Code_text_English_I.htm Lots of references here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Thailand Here's a book that should help: Thai Law for Foreigners $21.67 Thai Law for Foreigners by Benjawan Poomsan Becker and Roengsak Thongkaew The Thai Legal System Easily Explained Thai Law for Foreigners... Introduces you to the development of Thai law and the structure of Thai government and the Thai court system. Explains legal procedures in Thailand for both criminal and civil matters, how to choose a lawyer, Thai lawyer's ethics and how to work with lawyers and interpreters. Answers questions on family and personal matters such as Thai citizenship, engagement and dowry, prenuptial agreement, wedding ceremony, making a will, and divorce procedures. Gives information on living in Thailand, and contains lots of useful information in the reference section and a glossary of the English and Thai legal terms used in the book. This book will help you save time, money and the frustration of doing research to find out what you need to know about Thai law. It is written in plain language for common people to understand in both English and Thai. Paperback Bangkok 2007 Amarin ISBN 9789749898420 198 pages xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Mac
February 14, 200917 yr Can anyone point me to a website that explains / gives an overview of thai law in english? Obviously a VERY broad subject but a couple of suggestions ... Paiboon Publishing has a book "Understanding Thai Law" (or similar title) - see their web site Google to find the web sites of Thai law firms - some have very good discussion papers looking at specific areas of law - start with (for example) Tilleke & Gibbins
February 14, 200917 yr Google for the particular law that you are interested in. Some (condo laws for example) are available in both Thai & English.
February 14, 200917 yr Here are 3 websites I use http://www.bia.co.th/003.html http://www.thailaws.com/index_thai_laws.htm http://www.isaanlawyers.com/information.html
February 14, 200917 yr Author Thank you for all suggestions. I think these links will keep me busy for some time and I'll look into the texts. My purpose: General information (so that I don't have to post every law related question I have on Thaivisa!) Mostly interested in looking into commercial and property law at this stage. But also interested in criminal law (any suggestions?) - not that I'm planning on needing to know! - just interested. There seems to be so many levels of right and wrong when it comes to 'crime' in LOS. Cheers!
