Admitted One Year From When?

Featured Replies

Hi! I arrived in Thailand December 2, 2008 with a 1 year Non-immigrant O-A visa, multiple entries. In my passport immigration stamped that I was admitted until Dec. 1, 2009.

End of Jan. 2009 I went abroad and returned February 10. Prior to this trip I got the Exit- and reentry permit, where they also stamped that I was allowed to stay until Dec. 1, 2009.

However when I arrived in Bangkok Feb.10, the immigration officer stamped my passport that I was admitted until Feb.9, 2010. Is this correct or did she make a mistake?

If a mistake, should I do anything about it?

You spend money on a re-entry permit for nothing. The last stamp in your passport is correct.

Your visa is valid for one year. Every time you enter Thailand within that year, they will give you permission to stay for 1 year. So if you leave Thailand 1 or 2 days before the visa expires, you will get another 1 year pemission to stay.

The visa and the permission to stay are 2 seperate things.

Thanks for the answer, now this part is fairly clear. Maybe you can help with a followup question. When do I renew my one-year-visa?

Right know the visa says "enter before 30 Oct 2009" and say for example that I do a trip abroad and arrived 16 Oct to the Kingdom and therefore I have a stamp saying that I am admitted until 15 Oct 2010?

You apply for another one or a 12 month extension of stay within the last 30 days of your stay. So in your example that would be Sept/Oct. 2010

However, if you do a border hop on or before 29th October 2009 you'll get another 1 year stamp :o Handy if you don't meet the financial constraints for an extension.
