Hi,

Read on the boards that importing Rottweillers is forbidden. I'm moving back to Thailand from Canada and just can't stomach leaving my 11yr old Rottie behind.

Can someone clarify if I can bring my Rottweiller into Thailand?

Thx

Every time you hear about someone being mauled, invariably it involves a pitbull or rottweiller. Only last week we had a toddler almost killed. I'll stick to sweet, safe dogs thanks.

Rottweilers are great dogs actually! They shouldn't be classified in the same category as Pittbulls. Don't believe the hype, don't become a sheep..... :o

I heard the same thing actually, the Thai authorities have restricted the importation of guard dogs...especially Rotts...The best thing would be to check with the agricultural departement in Bangkok or/and the airline which you will be using...The Don Muang airport also has a vetenarial service( Of course!!), you might want to check with them....In my personal experience it is on a case by case system..Considering your dog is 11 yrs old and more of a pet then a guard dog, they might allow it.

This is what I get from one of their consul websites:

http://www.thaicongenvancouver.org/pet.htm

Nothing specific on rottis but contact info is there. Suggest the Thai embassy in Ottawa (613) 722-4444 or the Vancouver Consulate (604) 687-1143 for more info.

Bringing pet dogs or cats into Thailand

The procedures for bringing your pet(s) into Thailand for 6 months or more by air as one of accompanied baggage are:

* Obtain an authorization to import your pet by air. This can be done at the Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok.

* At the airport, you will need to:

o obtain an authorization to bring transit animals via Thailand (Ror 6 form), or

o obtain a permission to bring animals into Thailand (Ror 7 form), and/or

o fill out an application for special importation form (Kor Sor Kor 102).

o Please be advised that you may be required to pay fees for the above applications, as well as import duties on your pet. Import duties are exempted if your pet will be in Thailand for 6 months or less. However, you will need to fill out a guarantee form and pay a deposit at the airport.

* Other requirements:

o Identity certificate signed in country of origin by a registered veterinarian, describing age, breed, sex, color, etc. of your pet.

o Rabies vaccination certificate- your pet must be vaccinated at least 15 days prior to departure.

o Leptospirosis vaccination certificate- at least 21 days prior to departure.

o Animal must be healthy and free from any sign of infectious or contagious disease.

o Animal must be residing in Canada for no less than 6 months before the departure date.

cdnvic,

Thank you so much for the helpful information! As far as the research I have done so far, I've contacted Mr. Dickinson who was referred to me by the Toronto Thai Consulate. He is checking into this matter with Ottawa and so far tells me there is no restrictions on importing a Rottweiler.

I'll update when confirmed. :o
