Open A Small Shop In Bangkok

Featured Replies

What constitute working in Thailand?

Does it mean you must earn a wage or can my husband help me around the shop without being paid?

Would he still need a work permit in this case?

Every kind of work requires a work permit, paid or unpaid. That includes helping you in a shop. In Thailand he will need one even to perform volunteer work.

Also most professions are reserved to Thai only. Meaning he can not get work permit as shop assistant or cleaner.

General manager or CEO etc combined with ownership of the company would do the trick.

Also you need to be legit with your business meaning registered company, proper accounting and paying your taxes etc if want work permit to your husband. So forget about just renting a space and starting to trade if you want the wp.

Okay, thank you very much.

Wonder how many of these small shops actually make a go of it?

But if the shop is in the name of a Thai, do you think that the MIB could make problems if you (a farang) are around sometimes ?

And what are the formalities to open a shop for a Thai ? Where do you have to register your shop and how much does it cost to open, then how much tax a year ? For a small items / clothes / souvenir shop ?

Thanks.

Still need info.

Thanks.

You register a business with the Ministry of Commerce, they have branches usually at the Ampoer offices. Tax is depending on profits. For SMEs (i.e. you) the first 1 Mio is 15%, the second 25% and the third 30% taxes.

Whether or not the BIB show up in your shop doesn't make working without a permit legal. It is rather a question of luck.

Thanks, can you explain more about tax ?

I wonder who in this country declares enough to pay 15% tax at least ?

If it was to pay tax better have business in Europe or US and get real profit !

I a still not sure to register the shop, so i can't imagine paying any tax to the corrupted...

If your business is not making any profits over a couple of years you need to explain the revenue department why you keep the business open.

There are two things you cannot avoid in life : death and taxes
