You need a bank with a credit or debit card.

Log onto paypal.com - and open an account. Very easy to do. All you need is an email address and a bank account with debit or credit card. Enter your bank details, address etc.

PAYPAL will debit a small amount of money, 1 dollar or something and alongside that debit in your bank statement there is a four digit code. You can telephone the bank to get the code.

Once you have the code you enter it into your PAYPAL account and you are ready to send and recieve money.

The PAYPAL website is very easy to follow.

I think your Kasikorn Visa Debit card is a card which does NOT have the CVV2, or CVC2 code (This Card Security Code; also known as a CCID or Credit Card ID is often asked for by merchants for them to secure "card not present" transactions occurring over the Internet). On my American C/C's it is a 3 digit code on the back of the card next to my signature.

I just checked my debit cards here and both Kasikorn and my Bangkok Bank are strictly debit cards. Neither 'imprinted' with the card numbers (in high relief), nor carry a CSC number on the back, although ALL my C/C's from America do have both.

I believe it has nothing to do with the cash available on the card, and everything to do with that code number. Usually here the bank debit cards are for ATM, and electronic purchases ONLY, and must be 'swiped' thru a MICR card reader.

I still can't use either my Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn Debit cards to by Air Asia airline tickets online, and always must use my American C/C's, so go figure.

I've had a PayPal account for many years although it is tied to my US account, not any of my thailand bank accounts.

IF I am in error about this, sorry for the mis-information.

You could always call PayPal on Skype via your P/C, as 800 pre-fix numbers are FREE to call. Talk to a customer service person and get the answers you need. As an aside, they are American, so you can actually get information from them about issues you have, rather than the lame info you get here from alleged customer service people.

Does PayPal actually have people there now? I have/had a US bank account, ATM card and a BOA credit card. These were linked to my PayPal account. I tried to buy an item off eBay from Thailand and they limited my account for fraudulent activity. By limited, it was absolutely frozen. I couldn't even log in. Repeated emails to them received only canned computer replies.

I notified my bank and credit card company to NOT pay anything from PayPal and swore to NEVER use them again.

If you have Kasikorn ibanking you can use the virtual VISA card that comes with it.

I don't have that, and unlike my Visa/MC machine in my UK shop, my machine here seems to only work when you have the card to swipe. I tried putting my Kasikorn card number in and it didn't work. It worked on swipe though.

Paypal works excellent in Thailand. I have used it for years without problems.

Did you give PP a Thai home address, Singapore or a Euro address?

It makes a difference. :o

Now, something very strange has happened. When I checked my e-mail, I had one from pay-pal confirming my account had been set up. Everything was in order, it seems I could receive money and send money. I even sent myself an e-mail, for a sterling payment, and it was confirmed. Ok, but when I went on to see how much my limit was, it came back again " Your bank has refused payment" Is it because TiT.?

By coincidence I was swapping emails with PayPal last week and they were very fast to respond - once reply came back within minutes. Then on the Friday they sent me a customer satisfaction survey. So Gary A, it looks like they have sorted out their customer service issues. They also have quite a good web site.

When you set up the account you nominate one of three account types Personal/Premium/Business. You then nominate an address, bank account and credit/debit card for that account. The bank account must be in the same country as per your address OR in USA. You can't for example link to a bank account in Australia after giving a Thai address, or vice versa. You can set up a separate account for each country provided they are not the same type of account, and each has its own unique address, bank account and credit/debit card account. No specific restrictions apply to Thailand with regard to sending or receiving payments (with respect to the PayPal service)

While their web site says that Visa, Mastercard and Amex are the only acceptable cards, their customer service people stated that actually only Visa and Mastercard were suitable.

Sign up for for the Kasikorn Bank Internet Banking.

From there you can apply for the web card which is a virtual Visa debit card. This 'card' can be used to set up Paypal (and can be used to buy items online, and I guess would work for the machine maybe also)

No, the guy came to fix ours today and I asked him. As I thought the machines here only work if you swipe the card. So if your card is damaged, you cannot put the number in by hand.

Paypal is good but the chargs is preety high for 3.5 percent and they make money on the conversion rate too. I have heard there are other companies that offer cheaper rates. Any rec?

I just went through hel_l with paypal. They suspended or froze my account because I made a purchase on line from Thailand. Took me 3 weeks to straighten it out and counting. Up till now no problems.

Your thailand bank card will not work but you can get a visa or master card with your bank account that will. I believe at Bangkok bank there is a $10 fee and a short wait for it to arrive in the mail.
