swdi kp everyone,

just left bkk after 1 month there, meet a cool tirak, has university degree already, and decent english skill but, looking for some way to help her further.

hoping you might have a good reference, my girl works long hours and drives hours daily, so studying in bangkok is not going to work, she does have internet at home

but i have no idea about which test to work towards

looking for a quality self paced English course towards a Test like the :

PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, IELTS, TOEFL

that would also include a teacher

its not for a university entry but just to have a meaningful goal, to eventually live in old USA ......

any and all advice please

It sounds like you're looking for an online course with a teacher, but I haven't seen any reputable courses offered on the net as of this time. There are some online resources, but I haven't seen a good program that has a curriculum for what you are seeking. She might do better with some books for TOEIC and grammar (like the intermediate Murphy grammar book). Many of the TOEIC books come with listening exercises on a CD. The problem is that she will never improve her pronunciation and speaking unless she can practice these on a daily basis with a native speaker.

Good luck to the two of you and I hope your dream of living in Hawaii with your teerak comes true. Take her to Keo's if you get a chance.

I've noticed cdrom courses for sale, often specialised like business English or English for tourism. They're usually American too which I think would suit in this case. The bookshop I noticed them was the Japanese owned shop in paragon.

I am currently using the following site. Hope this helps http://www.ed2go.com/ As they have several courses for Engllish as a second language etc...

However, I think the post prior regarding CD Roms is a nice tool as well. I am using Pimselur on CD Rom to learn Thai. I am sure that you can find a number of English language tools on CD Rom on various websites....
