Thailand In August

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,

I'm an european who would like to come to thailand this august to train. I know that august is a bad time, being the rain season, still I bet that there are places better than others.

Mind that I'm coming to Thailand just to train really hard, so I would like to avoid the sex tourist route or the most commercial places.... I dislike very much overcrowding, still I would like to have some good beaches nearby, since here in Italy I swim on a daily basis and I love it! Instead one thing I hate is pollution: I want to avoid it at any cost, I like to run, and running in polluted places is awful.

I searched on the web about thai climate but I've not been able to dig out that much... I want to avoid as much as possible the tropical heat, since it could really compromise my training. I thought rain come with heat, but reading climate statistic online I found that some places has more rain and less heat than others.... strange....

So what would you advice me? Where's the best climate to train in august? Is better in rainy places, or hot places? And how bad the rain is? Does it makes impossible to walk in the streets even afterwards?

thank you for your time.

Hi there

I believe, if not all, at least most of the camps normally train indoors.

So if you come here to first of all train, the weather season should not matter that much.

Rainy season is for me the best season, as it is less crowded here.

yes but what if we have to run outside?!?!

how's the heat in the raining season? and the bugs?

If you can't run "outside", you can't cope with the heat and you're scared of insects then maybe you should try another hobby as you sure won't make it as a thai boxer. Always makes me laugh hearing about westerners trying to become thaiboxers, the real fighters are raised for it and live breath and sh**t the sport - It is their living - this makes them hungry.

Maybe you should stop watching martial arts movies and stop trying to be a tough guy. If you're scared of getting wet, sunburnt or bitten by bugs, you're the last person I'd put money on in a bout. :o

The "real" fighters fight for rent and food. You don't have to do that. I have spoken with real fighters and they think that 99.9% of the Farang wannabes that turn up at camps are a joke. You'll get no respect in a real camp.

"what about the bugs?" you're joking right?

you are so proud because you can stand the heat... how wonder how many seconds you would stand of running in the snow....

Actually I currently live in the UK. Running in the snow? 4 weeks ago I ran for miles in some of the worse Snow the UK has seen for years!

Fighting fit I am grrrrrrr... :o

I bet Chuck Norris would be really proud of you.

But he wouldn't be very proud of you. Can't run outside? Scared of the rain? Scared of the Bugs? Thaiboxer?? Don't make me laugh! Why don't you take up knitting or dress making and leave Thaiboxing for the real fighters. :o

I wonder why you have so much hate inside yourself...

My advice is that a little aerobic exercise, maybe in front of the Tv like the old ladies, could help you a lot to fight stress... Or maybe you could take the stairs instead of the elevator...

Now Now Girls. :o

If your serious about wanting beaches then I suspect your better off going to Ko Samui. I understand there are camps there.

Training is harder due to the Heat and Humidity than your probably used to but thats part of the point of coming hear right, you just have to take it a bit easier. I'm sure you'll return to italy fitter and more skilled.

Enjoy your training were ever you go.

Are people that bored of this place they open a new email addy and create a newbie account to add a topic?

how very droll

Dear MM,

2 blocks from my condo in Chiang Mai is the "Lanna Muay Thai Boxing Camp (do an internet search) where there are a lot of farangs and Thais training everyday. They are out running 5 days a week on the road at 5AM. Then back to camp for training 2 hrs. Breakfast, then more training. Lunch, then more training. August. I don't know how they do it. Insanely hot even at 5-6AM. Bugs sure. Mosquitos at night, yes. Rain, yep lots of it. Want to get good ? Just do it.

I'm not scared of bugs, i'm scared of dengue.

BTW I'm a pro athlete here in italy. I run 100 m in 11.97 and i have a pair of bouts in the sack.

You may have a pair of bouts in the sack but I don't think you have a pair of balls in the sack :o

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I bet the Chuck Norris would be really proud of you. Pay back is biotch. Chuch Norris is a joke!!! All serious MMA fighters know that he is just a Hollywood dork. I have studied/practiced Muay Thai and many other fighting styles for many years. You seem to be too wimpy for such training. However, I commend those who who try. You whine about what you believe to be negative aspects of LOFS. Maybe you should buy some Rob Kaman and/or Duke Ruffus Muay Thai instructional tapes/DVDs and stay and practice in Italy where you won't be offended by the fredom of prostitution, alcohol consumption, and ladyboys. BTW...are you a moslem or a troll?

Mind that I'm coming to Thailand just to train really hard, so I would like to avoid the sex tourist route

Why are you stating this? If you want to avoid the "sex tourist route" then do so. It is very easy to do. One has to go to the "sex tourist" areas to be there and there are only a handful in the whole of LOFS. You must not have ever traveled or lived in Thailand because it seems you believe the BS in the western media and rumor mill that all of LOFS is just a "sex tourist" country. Don't believe everything you hear on TV, etc. my friend. Sorry, you have to look for the red light areas that cater to falangs seeking "sex workers". They are not everywhere and thus are easy to avoid. They are in the most popular tourist areas because that is where falang tourists are. icon9.gif
