Windows Defender?

Featured Replies

Hello, can anyone please tell me in laymans terms why i need windows defender/ Firewall/ phising filter? Shoud'nt my Mc Afee do the same thing? By disabling all these posibly uneeded things would my internet and computer run faster?

Please explain in plain english as you would to a small child. Cheers.

First of all, your computer wont run faster but you would get big trouble very soon... that's for sure.

Firewall: Do you lock your car when you park and leave it?

Do you lock your door?

I assume you do.

There are many intruders who want to steal from you...

in that very moment they find an easy way to access your property.

So, protect your computer from intruders. Trust me, they wait outside already!

Pishing: Something very fake, mostly disguised as a well known institution i.e. your bank and

they will inform you "due to some security upgrade" please confirm your user name and password

by typing it and click SEND!" BANG! In that very moment you might have lost all your money already.

A few hours later your bank account has been emptied!

Hope I explained it simple: PROTECT!

yeah but wouldn't his McAfee do the same?

I am wondering as well, since I have AVG for antivirus, Comodo for firewall, and use Ad-aware and Spybot... so no real need for Windows Defender on top of all that is there???

You need three things a firewall, spyware detector and antivirus.

You only need one of each, so if your McAfee has it, others that come with Windows such as Defender are not needed and indeed running more than one software to do the same job will slow down your PC. McAfee comes in various forms. I have the Antispyware and Antivirus from McAfee so no longer use Windows Defender which is an anti spyware tool and not as very good one at that. There is also a Firewall from McAfee. It depends which vendors product you want, but install one.
