I got slapped over 20 times yesterday - i have been pondering this question so i counted them up as they happened

These slaps are not hard or malicious infact quite the opposite they are gentle fun slaps mostly for being silly/stupid/rude/ in or dis agreement ...

You know the ones I mean from your Thai Mrs or (Mr - but not sure as i dont have one)

Yesterday my first gentle slap was to my face/eyes/mouth for suggesting that it was time to get up after 9.30am... = then being told to shhhs "i'm tired"

I never got slapped back home in England like this so i'm guessing its a Thai trait..back home this slap would be akin to a Barrymore / Dale Winton gay slap.

I'm interested to know if anyone else has noticed this form of slapping?

yes certain girls do it more than others, its generally a sign that they find you cute. But some just do it out of habit to everyone, especially if consider you an equal.

Judging by the responses so far........looks like you`re the only one with a slapper.

Usually several times a week on the back of the hand by the female staff at the places I visit. Mostly because of my being cheeky in a fun way. They do seem to enjoy it too, bless em. Makes the other customers look at me rather strangely.

My friend had a nice, plump ass rarely seen in Thailand and he always got slapped on it in the streets of Bangkok, mostly by old women market or food vendors who would then laugh mischievously or uproariously after the deed.

It's just horrible!!!!! I have notice the slap thing too, I find it so horrible, uneducated, obviously not feminine. And no, is not a western thing.. I just dislike it a lot, I find it very low class to be honest. (even though I have seen it in different social levels) .

In 51 years, in 57 countries I've yet to be slapped, by anyone. Maybe you should examine if there is some behavior of yours that triggers these actions.

I think that you would have to really overstep the mark to be slapped in Thailand - Even by a slapper.

i dont knock around with bg consistantly btw,so i never notice their purses.

I have never been slapped that I have noticed anyways.

But I have seen it happen in the west many many times, like if the guy says something stupid the girl would lightly slp him and say "ewwww thats dirty" or whatever.

I havent really looked out for it here but im sure it probably does happen.
