Hi, I will be in Pattaya during the Songkran 'celebrations'.

What I intend to do is drive up to Korat on the 10th/11th and then back to Pattaya on the 16th/17th.

What are the main roads like during this period for things like traffic and drunken drivers?

Driving in the early hours to avoid all this is not a problem to me and I've done this route before so I have no major problems with 'every day' Thai driving.

What is Korat like for Songkran?

Thanks

you should be ok,i did that trip last year but left it too late travelling on the 12th and it was a nightmare, took 10 hours from bangkok to chaiyaphum.

Well I hope that you have read all the other posts, this will be my 18th Songkran so my advice is :-

If you have to go, then go earlier like 8th/9th and then back to Patters on the 16th/17th.

I never drive long distances at night, too many crazies on the road at that time. :o

Happy Songkran and Easter BTW and Good Luck and safe travel. :D

Just a follow up to see if the OP drove north and if so what date and how did he find the going? It only took my sister in law 5 hours to get here (90kms NW of Korat) by bus but she didn't leave BKK 'till midnight Sat nite(11th), and got back to BKK in less time leaving here at 6am on Wed, 15th. Apparently the uprising had a positve effect on traffic.
