My TOT connection was already for a couple of months very slow, but last week, the shit hit the roof with a whooping 124kb/s (test performend several times with the Thaivisa speedtest) and I was completely fed up with my ADSL.

I went today to the TOT shop, and with a (fake) big smile on my face, waaiyng all the time for every little shit, and "kho tot" at every answer, I tried to explain to the girl at the counter that my ADSL connection was "no good".

I was also showing her the print-out's from the Thaivisa speedtest.

Apparently, my (fake) big smile and my imitation of Thai acting touched the girl and she promised me that she would sent a service man to my home within 1 hour.

So, I rushed home and about 30 minutes later the TOT service truck was at my door.

Let the guys in, and showed them the "computer room".

The guy tried to start "Google.com" on Internet using Internet Explorer, but after 2 minutes, the screen was still blank.

He closed the IE window and noticed that I had a lot of Icos on my desktop and concluded that that was the reason of the slow Internet connection. But I showed him on the "Task Manager" that I had only a few processes running and that the Icons on the desktop could not be the reason of my slow Internet connection.

One of them had an Asus EEE pc with a network cable which he plugged into a LAN port of my wireless ADSL.

They started a speed test simultany on both PC's.

The speedtest used was from "ADSLThailand.com.

Result:

on the Asus EEE a whooping 1752 MB/s download speed and another whooping 414 MB/s upload speed and on my PC nothing at all.

All this sounded pretty weird to me, and I asked the permission to sit at my pc for a minute.

I opened Internet Explorer again on my computer and this tile I typed "google.co.th" (the google from Thailand).

Google appeared on my screen even faster than on their Asus EEE.

I typed "ADSLThailand" and I've got the same whooping results as they got on their ASUS EEE.

The technicians scratched their head, chatted a little bit back and forth, and finaly decided to call TOT Bangkok and sumit to them the problem.

A few seconds later he got the answer from Bangkok and proudly stated:

" Sir, you have an Internet connection which is not Inter."

"If you want to have an Internet connection that is really Inter, you need to subscribe to TOT INET."

"The 2MB/s TOT INET costs only 10.000 Baht/month."

He packed all his stuff back in the truck and disappeared as fast as he came.

So, I'm now pissed off more than before with all the Thai bullshit, but unfortunatly this is what every Thai Internet provider will aswer me.

"Highspeed Internet but not Inter."

The biggest joke I heard in years.

Yes TOT is tremendous again these days. Was just reading the topic of the guy who built his new house in bangsare in just under 5 months.Had to give up reading as it would take me that long only to download the pictures he posted.

It is obvious that TOT seems to be the abbreviation for TOtal Trash .. but they must follow an excellent marketing concept.

Otherwise why do so many people go for TOT? BTW same question applies for True

Agree. TOT and True both useless as far as internet goes. Costing me a total of THB 2990 a month and varies from 60k/s - 1.7Mb depending on its mood. Finally TT&T have become available in our area and we have jumped at the chance. 5Mb for only THB 1090/month. It can't be worse than TOT, but let's wait and see. Friends using TT&T or CAT are all very happy for the most part. I think the only reason TOT survive is because they cover all areas where the others don't.

mmmmm

TOT says or the techs are told to say that they will only guarantee 75% of the speed advertised in Thailand - so much like an intranet

No one has ever been able to show me this clause in the contract -

So you have same same internet but different

Well I have same problem as you guys slow slow slow is all I get from TOT with my goldcyber package.

As TOT is very close to the government it would not supprise me if they are running all data in and out of Thailand thru a proxy server in Thailand and trying to monitor it all..... that would slow things down.

Maybe thats what we are seeing now ? Some sort of big brother watching tests ?

My local speeds are okay its only international speed thats so low.

The reason I believe TOT would be first one to do this is because they seem to always follow instructions to ban websites a lot faster then the other Internet Providers in Thailand.

Also I noticed if I do an image search on Yahoo none of the pictures come up but same search in Google everything shows. (nice search on Audi TT).

Makes me laugh everytime some government official says "Thailand will be Asian hub of IT & software" and so on.

Can't even make the ADSL work.....

Well I just called TOT and they told me they are getting lots of complaints for last 3 days.

The nice lady told me they had network problems and when I asked what the problem is she said that TOT has changed it international link (one of em I guess) and this is causing the problems.

Hope they fix it soon !

Yes 100% of TOT customers (& ex-customers) surveyed, stated that TOT Suck the big one!

I'm gonna keep singing it from the highest trees until the cows come home & they will never see another red cent from me neither :o

What would they try to monitor?

Porno sites?

hel_l, I can see more porno in any regular THAI website as in all the foreign websites together.

Less majeste?

You should start to look at THAI webstes and how they talk about the monarchy and the govenment.

And all this is in THAI.

The monitoring of the Internet by the Thai Internet Police is as incomptent as their Thai counterparts.

It depends where you live. I've had no problems with TOT, I pay Bht590 for a 2Mb connection and just checking it now I get:

Download Speed: 1725 kbps

Upload Speed: 456 kbps

Latency: 183 ms

The best advice is to check locally, as ISPs vary radically from area to area; all I can say is TOT get my vote in Hat Yai.

TOT is sadly enough only good for thais that do not go to international sites

as one said, they cover all areas .... True does not want to come here due to high expenses / investment...

so all I can have is TOT, is what they said in a True shop...

and sadly...it is extreme slow(er) than TRUE I had before...

Had TOT 2 Mbps and Maxnet 2 Mbps at the same time. TOT was mostly useless - slow, and slow and... Not even the telephone worked very often for many days.

But more than this. When I canceled the TOT internet I paid 1070 Baht fee - it was okay with me so that I could get rid of this useless service. But I still got charged. When I went to TOT in Pattaya I was told that I did not cancel. I showed the receipt. Answer - I am not kidding - the lady knows me already and I am a problem guy - I did not cancel and she does not want to talk to me anymore. I never saw the lady in my life before...and I never complained about anything there before AND I HAD A RECEIPT SHOWING THAT I CANCELLED AND PAID FOR IT. Next month I still got charged. Answer from the hotline: it is up to the engineer when he closes my connection.

Maxnet (TT&T) is like heaven. TOT should not exist. The staff does with you what they want - you are just the last idiot. No need to complain - they have no fear - you are the one who should have it.

I am not new to Thailand. Have been living here for more than 10 years and I am used to a lot. But TOT was really the highlight in all this years - could write an endless negative story.

When will the Thais ever learn? lol.

I'm also on a TOT line. Fortunately, I'm not stuck with using their dreaded ADSL service (thank goodness). I love these stories nevertheless, they make for some good reading entertainment. :o

TOT is a very bad company.....since i remember,

the last 5 years has nothing much improved in their network.

Same problems/service as before. :o

But, what's about TT&T?

They sell now 3Mbit for just 590THB per month, can this be true :D:D ?

Maybe the share-ratio is about 200 customers per node.

I better stay with EDGE only and instead paying for TOT ADSL give the money to a charity.

Local Speeds are fine is the usual TOT international links that are the bottle neck in the network.

And that can be blamed on CAT.

The information and communications technology minister, Ranongruk Suwunchwee, refuses to meet with the two state telecoms enterprises because she is effectively powerless, says a government source.

The minister made internet censorship and blocking websites she considered offensive to the monarchy her main priority, when she was appointed on Dec 26. She has reportedly met with senior ICT officials only once, and only to inform them of her decision.

I think they are doing what I suggested in my previous post on this subject.

And I agree its impossible but to me it appears they are doing it and this will slow things down.
