I saw a couple in Tesco Lotus for 1,000-5,000 baht. I am wondering if people feel that these do the job good enough to drink the water or is it just a precaution for water used to cook with?

For the last several years, I have been lugging those huge water jugs from the 711 downstairs to my condo. I wonder, because I rarely see anyone else doing the same. I am not sure what everyone else is doing for water?

I cannot help you with the first part of your post. I also wondering what to do in the near future, so will be interested in any replies. Since i have lived in Thailand i have a filter system with ultra light. A very good system, but very very expensive. Cost near 30,000bht and have to replace the filter every 9 months at a cost of 5000bht. Will filter 5000 litre of water then warning light reminds you to get new one. It comes from Amway, called espring. It is now warning me to get new filter and guarantee is up, so now thinking of options. Can get large containers of water for 10bht after deposit of 100bht, same as resturants use. Tastes ok, but not sure for long term

I wish I could just get those huge jugs delivered to my door from Nestle. They cost about 30 baht each in Tesco. Maybe its expensive, but its not like we drink that much water and I know that I am likely getting a 100% safe product. I have yet to figure out how to do this though.

I have used a reverse osmosis system for years for drinking and the ice maker. Most of my friends use them, also, and we are all completely satisfied with them. We think it does improve both the taste and the purity enough to make it worthwhile for these two purposes.

But we do use plain tap water for cooking, washing vegetables, brewing tea & coffee, brushing our teeth, etc. And I will drink it if I am really thirsty and don't want to take the trouble to go downstairs to find the filtered water.

Google company named sprinkle. I use them and they deliver for your door in Bangkok. For my building they come at least once a week and you just leave empty container outside your door together with pre-paid voucher and they drop you a new one.

When you join up they give you small electric pump etc.

You need to pay refundable deposit of 300 baht per bottle, minimum 3 bottles. So 900 baht which you will get back if you decide not to order from them anymore and return the bottles.

Purchase coupon book (24 coupons equals 24 bottles) and you get the pump for free...

All water to the house goes through this filter.

We deem this good enough for cooking and washing.

Drinking water goes though a stainless steel triple filter, sand/active carbon/ceramic.

Sorry I do not have a photo of that.

The flow is slow, but good enough to refill the large bottles for the water cooler.

I used to have a huge problem with water pollution in the area I live. The water was of very poor quality so we decided to get a professional filter installed at home. I found home security service who had such installation in their offer. I recommend you looked at

home security services

to find a company which is able to install and service (the filter needs servicing cos it has to be cleaned). It's worth it cos the water is now of excellent quality and comes drinkable without boiling.
