Our friend's family has a resort in Chachengsao. From looking there only appears to be two, but I am not sure if it is one of those though it would seem it has to be. Anyway, Have you been there? What is there to do? It seems like its only about an hour outside of Bangkok, so it wouldn't be a pain getting there. What would you recommend on transportation to get there? I haven't really been able to find a ton of info on the city other than its riverside, many people don't speak english, and it's a "older city"...I know there must be more to it! :o

So, any and all advice/tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

There are some great atmospheric Thai restaurants right on the river. Taking a river boat trip is fun. There is a fantastic old wat (Thai and Chinese) that is the touristic highlight. It is the real Thailand. I liked my visit.

Jingthing,

Sounds really nice! What is the best way to get there? Bus or car? Will a taxi take us there from BKK? If so how much? Thanks!

There are buses from Bangkok frequently. I hired a car and driver from Pattaya so I can't really comment on transport except that it is rather large.

There's a famous dalat-nam (water market) in Chachoengsao...there's good tourist signage in the area so some key attactions are relatively easy to find. I drove from Bangkok taking the elevated Chonburi tollway...just a 1 hour drive.

There are plenty of trains from Bangkok to Chachoengsao.

I went to Chachoengsao by train a few times. I used to live right next to the train-stop at Phayathai (I won't call it a station - just a few wooden boards under Phayathai BTS station). Make sure you get the train going EAST not west, or you'll end up at Hua Lamphong station feeling like a right tit. And no, I have not done that :o

There is a printed timetable you can get from the guy who sits in the little wooden hut, although it is printed in Thai. Trains are pretty frequent, and there are quite a few stops at places like Khlong Tan and Ladkrabang. Travel time was just over an hour, from memory, and the cost a year ago was an astonishing 13 Baht per person.

Plenty of tuk-tuks at the station in Chachoengsao, and it's well worth going to see the sites (which basically means going to Wat Sothon) when you get there.
