Shocking Discovery: Newborn’s Body Found in Bag in Canal

A horrifying discovery was made in Khlong Song, Khu Khot district, Pathum Thani, when a fisherman stumbled upon the body of a newborn baby inside a bag weighted down with concrete. The police are now investigating the case, reviewing CCTV footage in a bid to identify who dumped the body. Authorities were alerted after a local fisherman, Mr. Prajak Wangchuen, 43, found a black fabric bag floating in the canal while casting his net. Initially entangled with tree branches, the bag was pulled up along with his fishing gear. Though he considered discarding it, something compelled him to open it. To his shock, he discovered the decomposing body of a newborn baby wrapped in multiple plastic bags and a piece of clothing, with a concrete slab placed inside to weigh it down. Police officers from Khu Khot Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Ratchata Rattanajongwijit, were dispatched to the scene along with forensic experts from Phumipol Adulyadej Hospital and rescue volunteers. The area, once part of the now-defunct Khu Khot Floating Market, is located at the end of Phahonyothin 64 alley, near the embankment of Khlong Song. A preliminary examination revealed that the baby was a full-term male infant. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, attracting swarms of insects. Pol. Col. Kantapon Wanna, Superintendent of Khu Khot Police Station, stated that officers had documented the crime scene and collected the bag and wrapping materials as evidence. Investigators are now combing through CCTV footage to trace anyone seen carrying a similar bag in the area. They are also identifying pregnant women in the vicinity who may have recently given birth. The accident occurred on Sukhumvit Road near Soi 101/2 at approximately 11:00 on 13 March, during heavy rain. Police from Bang Na Station, along with forensic experts from Chulalongkorn Hospital and rescue volunteers, arrived at the scene to investigate. The victim, identified as Mr. Achawit, was found lying on the road with severe head injuries. His Honda Wave motorcycle was nearby, while a Route 180 public bus was stopped about 10 metres away, with the driver waiting to give a statement. A witness reported that the crash was caused by the slippery road conditions due to rain. As Mr. Achawit was riding along the left lane, he lost control and fell. The bus, which was following closely behind, was unable to brake in time, and the front wheel ran over his head, killing him instantly. Authorities took the bus driver in for questioning and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause of the crash.
