Well, after much researching and reading posts on TV, and talking to one of the experts, I had my wife, a Government Official, go into immigration to check personally. She took in my passport so they could look at the entries in it.

Situation, contract up at University on May 31, and wanted to renew the extension under married extension without leaving the country. Previously years ago went from Married to work extension. The told her that this kind of change requires I leave the country and return with a new 90 day Non-O, then reapply for the married extension.

Not encouraging for those of you doing the same thing.

If anyone has recently come back from KL, please send me a message or reply here as to your experience and procedures, as a recommended hotel near the Consulate.

That would be appreciated.

Thanks

There is no need to leave the country when you change the reason for an extension, for example from being married to a Thai national to working or the other way around.

As long as you have an income of 40,000 or 400,000 in a Thai bank account for 3 months there is no problem.

Your right. I'm not sure what makes all the super moderators experts in Immigration procedures. In most cases I am very thankful for the good advice they give everyone on the site, especially Lopbury3. The situation I am facing is wait until the last few weeks of work and find out I have to leave the country without having a chance to prepare or ask. Its a good thing we asked.

Sometimes some situations don't fit all rules. We have been dealing with Chiang Mai Immigration for 10 years and they have always been very good. The person my wife talked to was an Officer from the back, not at the window.

Has anyone just come back from KL and can recommend a good hotel near the Consulate and some tips on what they might require?

The operative words here are Chiang Mai, immigration there doesn't like doing creative things with extensions of stay.
