A poll about the NBT Newsline program in English every workday.

The reason I havent seen it as I am long gone to work by the time this airs. Would guess that's true of most 'working' farangs in Thailand.

Good point. But for who are they making this program?

For Thai people to get some English language experience?

I watch it every now and then. But it is not a 100% newsprogram so I do not like it a lot.

What time is it on?

Between 8 and 9 in the morning every workday.

Is it the same news programme as the one that used to be on late at night on Channel 11? That used to be quite interesting, especially when they had our friend Mr Tiida on. But they slowly got rid of the good presenters, changed the format and started changing the time so you never knew when it was on. Also the advertising plugs for TAT started to get more time than the actual news stories. I don't know what became of it after the big shake up...

Thanks for that. Too early for me, unfortunately.

And the pathetic attempt by Channel 3 at 4:30 pm every weekday is too frustrating to watch. I would love to tell the Thai woman translator what I think about her, but she wouldn't understand the English words "pathetic", "useless", "bugger off and find something else to do you overpaid hi-so <deleted>", etc., etc.

I defy anyone to watch that program and not get annoyed at her.

Is that the one with the presenter Jay Bunnag? I liked the program, although Bunnag seemed to like posing for the camera, cracking jokes and taking the p1ss out of any female co-presenters if they dared to make an appearance. The more Asian looking male co-presenter was much better than Bunnag, but wasn't on full-time.

I haven't seen the program since Channel 11 became NBT.

I only watch it occasionally because I'm usually out by the time it comes on. I answered "yes" to the question "Do you like it?" because it is the only English language Thai news program I know of and I would like to see more. It is not really very good however. Maybe they report on one or two relevant news stories each program and the rest is just filler.

The presenters are all very young and obviously not too experienced in news reporting. My guess is that they are recent journalism or mass communications graduates of foreign universities, but I am certainly not sure of this. From the different accents it is easy to determine which ones learned their English in the UK, North America or Australia. The interaction and awkward comments amongst them is often entertaining.

True. They sometimes try to be funny.

The interview section is sometimes nice but depends on the guest.

Yes that was the one.

And as for taking the piss out of the female presenters - my goodness me they deserved it!

That show was like a very badly produced and presented version of John Craven's Newsround!

Yes, I think they were only there as eye-candy. :D

Am reviving this old thread because Newsline was not shown this past week for some mysterious reason. Anyone know why? Has it been taken off the air for good?
