Do you ever feel that computer are against you? :D

I have spent the last few days trying to sort out my three PCs and at ever turn I experience problems.

A lot of the problems are down to my crappy broadband connection, but even trying to confirm that is a headache.

I got caught out with a Microsoft update request whilst running an XP copy. So I decided to re-install XP and went a bought a disk. After re-installing I find its an old version and now my wi-fi does not work. I went out to find another copy but couldn't. Maybe further afield tomorrow.

In the mean time my desktop intermittently does not work at all and the rest of the time it boots up but the keyboard and mouse don't function. Occasionally it actually works.

My third net book runs Linux but some apps won't run on the Linux version. I decide to upgrade the OS (to Easy Peasy). After much searching and searching for instructions I download the software. I then try to put it on a USB. It doesn't work. I plug in my external DVD writer in order to burn it to live disk. The writer is only a few months old and has been back to the shop for repair once. It doesn't work again! :o

I bought an external 320Gig hard drive to back up everything for this re-install process. I now wonder if it got my i-tunes and if it will work when I finally sort the laptop. Its not straight forward either.

My broadband seems to be screwed, but I really don't know. It takes forever to look at some internet pages and some don't even open. Google often opens but then refuses to actually search for anything. Skype used to be brilliant but now I can't make calls. Its the same on all PCs. I tried searching for a speedtester but that took so long I gave up! :D

If I was in the UK I would just get a tech savvy friend to come around and help out, but here I just struggle on.

Thats my moan about technology for the day. :D

Have you checked for those pesky flies you were having probs with?

Stuck under the keyboard?

Sorry I can;t be more helpful. :o

The flies just make me more wound up. :D

Actually I have managed to get my DVD writer working now, so I'm making progress. I'm sure I'll be up late again tonight though, trying to fix it all.

Well I'm glad it's not just me as I am also sure that there is a hi tech conspiracy out to get ME! :D

But then I do talk to my computer quite a lot for example "You lousy douche bag of a piece of maggot infested garbage etc etc etc" :o

It doesn't actually do any good but it makes me feel a lot better and it's cheaper than the option I'd really like to take up. That is throw the f***ing thing out of the eleventh floor window.

When I was a young apprentice the word was that in 'x' years we would all be on permanent holiday as computers would do all the work. Computers were the holy grail and were absolutely perfect in all that they did. Computers never got tired, never went sick, never took a day off, never made a mistake. All data would be stored electronically and only a few highly skilled technicians would be needed to keep things going.

What a humungous FLOOB (technical term for salesman speak, FLOOB = F***ing Load Of Old B***ocks). I reckon there's more people supporting the dang things than were ever employed doing the actual work they are SUPPOSED to do and as for the "paperless office", don't make me laugh.

But the reality is that we can't do without them, they are like a parasite that sets up a symbiotic relationship with it's host but then takes over such that the host becomes the parasite.

My laptop has just told me "Calm down, ranting is futile. Now go and make a cup of coffee there's a good little primitive carbon based life form" :D

Ahhh, the wonderful world of technology :o

Been there a few times and would have torn my hair out if I had any left.

If my computer is making me feel like kicking it..i go away from it for a while to relax. :o

Btw..it sounds like you have missing drivers. You can check by going to: control panel>system>Hardware>Device manager.

Check for "?". Download the drivers you need which should fix the errors.

This is what i do if I have a prob, but maybe others know of easier ways.

Or..you could always go out and buy a dif copy of xp which will automatically load the drivers for you.

Good luck anyway! :D

Bit slow sorry, just realised that you were just needing a rant, not comments on solutions. So ill zip it and just wish you luck! :D

No, any solutions or advice is welcome. I currently have two PCs going in front of me with half a dozen pages open on each trying to solve problems. :D

Advice on the broadband issue would be welcome. It is actually working ok now, at 9:30pm, which makes me think it is in some way the provider.

I'm going to take my XP laptop to an IT centre tomorrow and ask them to install for me and fix any problems after that.

As for the Linux problem: well I think in reality I should just give up and continue with XP there. Its just stubbornness that is making me persist. Other people have it working so why can't I. :o

I don’t know if this will help but I’ve just sorted a problem I had on a XP desktop.

It started going haywire initially giving me broadband connection problems. My broadband connects into a usb port. Then other devices, headphones, mouse (all usb) etc started giving problems.

I then connected them to a self powered usb hub but that didn’t help.

The solution was to replace the power supply. Everything is working fine again.
