What Do You Guys Do For Fun In Thailand?

Livinginexile

Recommended Posts

This is a question for the guys out there that live permanantly in Thailand and don't need to work to suport themselves. I can understand being a family man can keep you busy but what about you single guys?

I've spend various amounts of time in Thailand, never for longer than 3 months after which I can get very bored.

Besides drinking and chasing girls, what do you guys do to stop yourselves from going crazy? Thailand can't all be about sex can it?

Or can it? :o

I think it all boils down to whether your an active person or a lazy person. I'm married and have a child, plus 2 on the way, but that doesn't mean I'm active. I could just sit on my arse every day and go on the piss, same as a single man, but I don't. I always do something to stay active and I avoid drink until at least the evening. The thing is to avoid people that don't fit in with your values. For me it's family first, beer second. Family is fun.

Read books, watch movies and VDOs on TV, get healing massages, get erotic massages, swim, exercise, eat Japanese, eat Thai, eat fast food, go to the beach, go shopping... lots more. :o

Sounds like a good life Ulysses :D

I quess it's horses for courses.

But can I ask you please...how is your health? do you have a weight problem? The reason I ask is...

if I lived that kind of lifestyle I would turn into a big fat bastard in no time. :D

Watch TV progs and movies I d/l. Go to the park or off for a drive. Read books. Play games on the computer, e-mail, go to the pub, look for new conquests.

Cook, clean and do the laundry. Same as I used to back home but there is more sex here :o

I exercise every day as well as work 6-8 hours. That was plenty before I got Rheumatoid Arthritis in my twenties.

I'm sure you look like Adonis on steroids as a lot of anonymous internet folks tend to. Do you do a triathlon everyday or just run on a treadmill from dawn to dusk? :o

I'm no Adonis but I do try to look after myself, all I mean is...if I lived your lifestyle I would put on weight very quickly.

I like the fact that my life has slowed down a lot. Its still jam packed though. In fact, i wonder how i used to do all i did before i moved here!

I have some work, but not as hectic as in the UK. I read, I learn different things, I do my art, i sunbathe, i swim, i exercise, i help with a few things, and all the other little things that fill up a day, a week, a month, a year. At some point I may pick up the pace again, but im loving the fact that i feel RELAXED!

I dont get bored, because my mind is always active on something. Im constantly educating myself.

Your genes will dictate how you will look at the end of the day. Why fight it ? It will come naturally what ever you do. That's life.

I exercise almost every day and work every day of the year. I just don't see that as an unhealthy lifestyle. Rheumatoid Arthritis is hereditory and as far as doctors know, it is not anyone's fault.
Isn't it the fault of the parent to try and eradicate it, within the family ? In animals it's called selective breeding ? The same, as humans impose on animals ? Edited by coventry

am retired(not working)g/f works full time. What do i do,sometimes i dont know but i do know the days go fast and i enjoy everyday.

I clean the joint, potter in the garden, use the internet a lot to access information with things am interested in,for example you can access thai language courses on the net,go on thai visa for info and discussion/banter,in fact its nothing to be on the net for hours each day.Every day i do a half K swim, either in a resort pool or sea,and when your on the beach there's always friendly thai's to talk to smiling and laughing all the time.maybe go for a ride on the bike, meet up with friends for a beer/cuppa tea etc.

If anyone likes bars to socialise in(apart from b/g)you can always join a pool team comp,or trivia team, another social past time could be tennis or golf, maybe lawn bowls,so heaps to do if you want.

I'm sorry to hear about your rheumatoid Ulysses, I hope I didn't offend you with my comments.

I am moving permanently to Thailand with my Thai family soon and I am interested in how others keep themselves busy.

My gallavanting days are over so that rules out the bars and nightlife. I am the kind of guy that needs to keep busy otherwise I go cabin crazy quickly.

But I know myself. If I settle into a static lifestyle I would put on heaps of weight very quikly, I would turn into a lazy fat slob. :o

Yesterday - I walk to a local bar on lower suk and strike up a conversation with a stranger who is ex SAS and now works on undercover security detail in Thailand. His need to tell me about his latest secret mission is that he 'trusts' me....Then I get speaking to a girl that is working as a cahier in an industry that she hates but she can see that I have a good heart and will I go out with her...for a small fee...I decline, retire to the Huntsman terrace have a salad, read the newspapers and then walk to on nut market for a beer with some mates and then home to do some work until late in the evening.

Bangkok is never boring.

No but its a part of it you use for your own satisfaction and pleasure, just like any man would with the woman.

Everyday is something new.

Keeping the mind occupied and the body active, for me it's travelling, riding, ryding, writing, swimming, websites, videography and much more.

Heavy drinking and drugs are really the worst of the vices, it'll cost you more than women. So I keep it soberish and a steady trickle of women each week or fortnight. :D

The two-week hero's and golden-caged expats can't really dig it, but that's cool as they have there own lives and styles of living too :D

I find myself bored quite often in Bangkok even though I would agree the city itself is never boring. I used to go for hikes, bike rides and long walks back in the states to fill the time. I can't really do that here in Bangkok so I end up staying in a lot or going to shopping malls. Other than that I study Thai, study computer programming on my own and spend time with my wife. I find the bar scene depressing and boring. I also find clubs depressing and boring. And yes maybe I am depressing and boring but if you do enjoy clubbing or the bar scene you probably will feel more entertained than me. The boredom I have felt here has convinced me not to retire in Thailand when the time comes and to instead stick to 2 week vacations here.

I would say food plays a large role in my day to day affairs. Everyday i ask myself "What do I want to eat?" which is fun because I have so many restaurants at my disposal.

Otherwise I spend time with my wife, play Left For Dead video game, exercise, massage, read, swim.

In this regard I am really looking forward to having a child to spend my attention on.

The OP asked what we do for fun. If I get bored in Chiang Mai or just haven't been out of town for a while, I sometimes take a trip to the beach for a few weeks. :o

I suspect my retired lifestyle is not too different from what Ulysses stated in his posts. Nowadays, the big question in my mind is: "Before I retired, how in the hel_l did I ever find time to work"? Friends have encouraged me (well-meaning of course) to find a job. I just smile to myself and think: "Uh-Uh, there are just not enough precious hours in the day to waste any of them working" :D
