This passage is from this week's Matichon Weekly. I have three questions: first the meaning of sentence 4 below; second, sentence two has a lot of wordsw; am I interpreting them correctly; and, three, what is the metaphor regarding "เตมีย์ใบ้" in sentence 1.

1. แต่กระนั้น พล.อ.เปรมก็คงต้องชี้แจงในสิ่งที่สามารถชี้แจงได้ ไม่อาจยึดภาพ "เตมีย์ใบ้" ได้ เพราะอย่างที่ทราบเรื่องนี้ส่งผลสะเทือนอันลึกซึ้ง

Nonetheless, General Prem needs to point out that which he can; he likely cannot claim the mantle of "Prince Temi the Dumb" because, as we know, this issue has deep and significant repercussions.

2. และด้วยความลึกซึ้งนั้น ทำให้ข้างหลังฉากของการกล่าวหาจากฝ่าย พ.ต.ท.ทักษิณ และหลังฉากการตอบโต้จาก พล.อ.เปรม ยังมี "ขบวนการสัประยุทธ์" ที่ทั้งรุนแรง และเหี้ยมเกรียมดำรงอยู่

And, These complex interactions make the activity behind the accusations from both the Thaksin faction and the responses of the Prem faction resemble vicious and brutal combat tactics.

3. โดยเฉพาะในฝ่ายที่ถูกกล่าวหาว่าเป็น "อำมาตยาธิปไตย" นั้นคงไม่งอมืองอเท้ารอรับข้างเดียว

This is especially true of the faction which is being accused of being of being a lazy, inflexible, and passive government by bureaucracy.

4. เพราะอย่างที่บอกนี่คือ การรบที่ต้องพังกันไปข้างเดิมพันจึงสูง

As has been said, ____________________________

5. "ผมไม่เกี่ยว" จึงเป็นคำปฏิเสธที่เทียบได้กับยอดภูเขาน้ำแข็งที่พ้นน้ำ

The phrase "I have not been involved" has become the note of refusal which is likely just the tip of the iceberg.

ต้องพังกันไปข้าง: ข้าง means ข้างหนึ่ง, พัง means destroyed, เดิมพัน is 'stake' in a gambling sense. Here's a semi-literal rendition of the second part:

[in] a battle in which one side must be destroyed the stakes are high [as a result]

พระเตมีย์ใบ้ is one of the last ten rebirths of the Buddha. When General Prem was the Prime Minister, he rarely talked or answered any questions from the press, so, they called him "เตมีย์ใบ้" since then. I remember his famous line when the press tried to interview or asked him something would be กลับบ้านเถอะลูก and then went away.

I think the part "เพราะอย่างที่ทราบเรื่องนี้ส่งผลสะเทือนอันลึกซึ้ง" should be interpreted to "as we know, this issue has caused significant impacts".
