Hi so I'm gettin ready to apply for a fiance visa with my GF - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Uk-Visa-Advi...Gf-t250112.html, was planning to go tomorrow, and can't sleep so digging around on the net and I think I've just discovered that settlement applicaitons must be submitted online?

Can someone please tell me this is untrue, because if it ain't I am in some serious trouble...

I fly back monday morning and the application centre is closed on friday...

I was kinda under the impression you went to VISA application centre, queued, filled in the form there and stuff...

Looks like you might be out of luck:

03 April 2009: Applicants applying for settlement and points-based visas must schedule an appointment and complete an on line visa application form at www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk

Taken from the vfs website. I suggest you try to make an appointment now. We went through the process at the beginning of last year and there was no need to make an appointment or book anything online, but I would advise you fill the form out before you arrive. It's easy to make a mistake and then maybe have to rewrite sections and this is obviously done without the pressure of being in the centre, plus you will not actually be allowed to accompany your other half into the centre.

Hey thanks, yeah that's the thing I saw... I'm seriously brickin it now! Gonna run through the application i guess. You'd think they'd have an option for people who dont have access to the internet. I'm only connected through my mobile phone here...

I also see the fee has gone up, I was thinkin it was £515 - now it says 30400 baht... this is not good...

ps , I cant even come in the centre with her??? really? wow this night is gettin worse and worse :o

The centre is bascially located on the first floor of the building on a mezzanine like level. It's right next door to a big visa agency, so don't be fooled into being dragged in there thinking it's the centre. You can go inside the building and sit outside on the chairs provided, but your other half is the only one allowed past the guards and into the actual vfs section.

You could try turning up and see what happens, but it does seem from the VFS website that settlement applications do now have to be submitted online.

This is just submitting the application form. She will then be given an appointment to attend the VAC and submit her documentary evidence and have her biometrics taken. That you may be out of the country by then is not that big an issue as she can go alone; you would not be admitted to the centre anyway. I know this is not ideal as I'm sure you would want to be there for her, but at least she can still submit the application.

Even if you were able to be there, settlement applications appear to be taking several weeks to process at the moment, so you would be gone before she heard anyway.

As said above, make sure that she avoids the sharks outside and goes directly into the VAC.

Having completed the online application, I assume that there is an option to print a copy? (Sorry, never applied on line).

My girlfriend done her 1st application for a visit visa by printing off the application forms and writing, turned up there without appointment fine, no problems.

Second time done it online. Printed off the sheets after completing it on the internet, going there with about 30 minutes before it closed without appointment and handed it in fine.

Visit visa 'requires' an appointment too if completing online, but my girlfriend just turned up on both ocassions and no problems, even on the last day before it closed last thursday for the holidays..

Might just have been luck though?
