There is a good article by a UK based Thai citizen recently accused of lese majeste on the Guardian website, his views are quite clear and some of his reasoning is understandable(I'm not sure where I stand in this debate any more) but a reply to this particular article mentions that Abhisit Vejjajiva and his party are continuing some of the policies for the poor - anybody have any ideas what these may be? And could they be a starting point for things to turn around? Perhaps appeasing the 'poor'?

I dont have any idea how the latest PM would help the poor people in Issan, all i know is that Thaksin provided money for the issan farmers by way of the village headsman, my neighbour [his farm is way out in the sticks] got solar panels to provide electricty for a tv, kettle ect, all free, if the new PM could do something like this, then he would win the hearts of Issan voters, and to try to take away the isaan right to vote will start a civil war,

The Government are indeed pressing forward with wealth distribution and reforms - it is one of the driving urgencies of the Taksin camp to remove the Government from power before these policies bear fruit.

Glances at bookcase .... and reminds self to re-read that book.

That's an interesting view, could it possibly change rural peoples beliefs about Thaksin?
