Processed Meats

Featured Replies

I just took a four-day trip to the US.  As usual, I stocked up on foods. Since the weather was cool, I decided to buy some food such as hotdogs, turkey pastrami, and some pre-cooked biscuits in those cylindrical tubes.  All of these require refridgeration.

Well, two of my bags got held up at JFK and won't be dleivered until 2:00 AM tomorrow morning.  The bag which did make it came through fine, and the salami in it was nice and cool.  But the bags containing the other things will have been sitting at JFK for 24 hours before they can get to the cool of the airplane's cargo hold.

The pastrami is a whole one, still sealed in the vacuum pack it was put in when it was made.  The hotdogs are Hebrew National all beef, and they are in their original packages.  All were in the refridgerator until I left for the airport.

When the bags finally arrive, is there a chance these food items will still be any good?  Can I still eat them?  Any food experts out there who know about this type of thing?

Since the weather was cool,

I wouldn't worry too much, since the products are all salted/cured meats. Plus as you said "the weather was cool", 10 C highs , -1 C lows. But as the old saying goes: "the nose knows".

Sure would like to share some of those products with you :o .
