Non-imm(o) In Kl -- Some New Info

Featured Replies

At least I think this is new info, as I for one had not gotten wind of it before my trip to Kuala Lumpur in early April.

I have received a 1 year non-imm (O) visa a few times before, based on marriae to a Thai national. Before this current trip to KL, I checked the Thai embassy in KL website, and carefully recorded all the things that would be required of me this year. There are a couple discrepancies between what is posted on the Thai embassy KL website, and what I was told in KL, some very small, but one big one, so I will just post the data points here for everyones benefit:

Big thing:

1) They wanted a recent bank statement showing 100k baht in a Thai bank. I pointed out that their list of reqs on their website said nothing about this and they told me it was the new policy. They luckily let me slide this time, but gave me a sheet of new reqs and said I'd need the bank statement next time.

Small things:

2) Maybe this wil help someone next year: Although there are NO April holidays listed on the KL website, either Thai or Malaysian holidays, they were in fact closed on April 6th. Irritating, I really should have called first, so I recommend you do too before buying plane tickets.

3) Times to pick up your completed passport have been moved up to 2:30-4:30 the next day. Previously it was around 12:30. Just nice to know in advance.

Hope this info helps someone

Thanks for this. KL has long been my favourite place for a visa (we have friends there = cheap accomodation).

The 100k is a new requirement but not a major issue ( < 3k US).

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

All of that info was posted 2-3 months ago. Have a look at the "pinned" section " Latest news on getting a visa in the region"

And so is 2-3 months out of date, and we all know how quickly things can change on this subject.

Always good to have up to date information :o

This is true. But the OP is not new info, as the title suggests. It is the same as reported 2-3 months ago. Therefore it is "up to date info ". :o

can u just borrow from a friend - transfer in 100,000 for a few days, get a bank statement, then transfer back to your friend?

Yes you could. There is no requirement for it to be there for any amount of time. But it would probaly help if it was an old account that showed some previous activity.

Thanks.

Do you need a statement letter from the bank, or is the transactions printout in the passbook enough?

Passbook should be good.
