Barabbas Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Regarding Taksin's passports: A couple of years ago, while still in London, but when the seat was already getting hot under his bottom, he flew in to Moscow, where appeared at Thai Royal Consulate office, with 2 or 3 bodyguards by his side, and applied for a "replacement" passport instead of the one, which was in his own words "stolen in London". By that time he as already ousted and declared fugitive from justice, nevertheless, after a phone call from the Embassy to Bangkok, a new passport was very promptly (within 1 hour) was issued. He seemed to be in good mood and joked with the staff, and in general looked relaxed (although some nervousness was detected in the beginning). This is 100% true, since I got the information from a person who actually participated in the process (not from Taksin's side). In general: as I actually was there, when the red shirts blocked Din Daeng and Vibhavadee on Thursday, and having watched the Pattaya rumble on the telly from BKK, I have to say this is by far the worst thing that has happened to Thailand in last couple of years (natural disasters and events in the South excluded). I don't read Western press/watch western media in Thailand (I can read Thai well enough to read local press - which isn't any more objective and speculative than any other), and I prefer to make my own judgement on the facts - so I try to gather factual information. And this time around it looks like the government and the PM have done a good job. If Taksin really planned on turning the PAD's weapons against themselves, he miscalculated grossly. The one thing I was scared of most during the last days of the last week, was a civil war. FOr now it seems that it's been avoided. In the same time, all of this might not be over yet. Obviously, Taksin just cannot accept being a failure, and we might still witness some ugly stuff. Only hopes are for wise course of the government, or for divine intervention.
Old Man River Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Expect more 'noise' to come from red co-leaders 'dynamic-duo' Jatuporn & Jakrapob via Mr Thaksin's now clearly barking-mad orders down the red/rouge phone... And that is the bottom line. The UDD leaders need to be nullified. Once the Red movement is headless it will disappear until new leaders emerge and that is not likely to be anytime soon. However, this isn't going to be easy. Jakropob is the most dangerous one and it is expected that he would carry on with or without Thaksin.
blackman Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Jai DeeAbhisit I think you are a closet genius I tell you, Genius. I agree with you. I was very surprised to see the way he dealt with the chaos provoking protesters. The international community should learn a lot from him. He is a genius right now! Completely Agree! anyone notice the praise being heaped on Obama for taking the action to free the US captain taken hostage by somali pirates? what a great job they did, yes i really mean that, but in doing that job, 4 pirates out of the 5 were killed to free 1 hostage Abhisit frees 9 million people in Bangkok from the tyrannical grip of 100,000 revolutionarys and kills no one for this he is vilified by some members on this board? i can't be bothered to work out the math in % terms of dead / to people freed but if one only counts the bodies, it sounds to me like Abhisit did a better job to me and should be congratulated. both were considered to be soft and their resolve was under analysis before their respective crisis' put them to the test both came out of it to be considered stronger by the media and their constituants as a result for me congratulations are in order to both Obama and Abhisit but for me Abhisit took the day.
mc2 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Revoking his passport wont solve much in the long run. In a few years time, the 111 members who were banned will form a new party, come election time they will probably win. I just dont think Abhisit can change the hearts of the rural populace.
Dove Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Perhaps if they had brought him back, many more heads would roll, especially those sitting on the fence and benefitting from both side. Maybe some people out there are praying that he does not come back. hmmm

brahmburgers Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 How about Thai authorities revoking the accolades bestowed upon Thaksin in past years? I believe he has at least a half dozen commemorative awards, including some honorary things from the Royal family and some other citations related to the Police Corps. What would really be cool is to use Thaksin's frozen assets to pay for damages related to the riots he helped create. Plus restitution for families who lost loved ones - plus payments to people who suffered injuries or property/business damages due to the Red Shirts acting on Thaksin's orders. I read today that families of a person killed by rioters get Bt.100,000 from a gov't agency. I'd recommend those families sue Thaksin for additional damages.

Now, that's the best quote I've heard all day!! Off to Thierry's bar (Reggae) for a celebratory drink, that man!
xminator Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 He may return as a monk and kiss the ground at the airport again! That doesnt work unless you kissed a lot of assed before you ran away. Thaksin been busy making enemies, so he wouldnt be able to walk free even if he could prove to be Buddha reincarnated or if he had all of Bill Gates money.

Actually it might work, and it wouldn't surprise me that if T were to return, he would shave off his hair right before arriving (or have a monk shave it off), and make motions that he plans to immediately join the monkhood. It worked well for an earlier Thai despot (let him off the hook), and it might also work for T. In western countries, it's been said that "patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." In Thailand, that could be rephrased to: "entering the monkhood is the last refuge of a scoundrel." (corrected punctuation)_
jamesjdaly Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 No. Prayer is the last refuge of a scoundrel. And he hasn't a prayer!!
xminator Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Wasn't he allegedly seen at the Cambodian PM's residence? Something about that was in the news.I wonder if Abhisit would invade Cambodia just to get Thaksin. Jeez, what a guess... makes me speechless. How long have you been around here in Thailand? /edit spelling Thaksin is in Dubai. AJE had a face to face interview in a Dubai hotel the day after the crackdown. One that havent been talked too much about on this forum because Thaksin came across balanced and focused in that one. Where he is now is anyones guess.

Maybe some people out there are praying that he does not come back. hmmm Have to agree with you. The worst thing that can happen is if TC is back to LoS. Regardless of his status, he still has a powerful image in the heads of the poorest. And yes, they are zombies - duped by the media. I don't want to see a mob storming a prison, where TC is held. The quickest solution to stop him from any further attempts to come back to power is quite obvious and brutal, but the last thing this country needs is another political martyr.
jamesjdaly Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 THIS is the point where Thailand can free its fetters and release its chains from the tyranny of corruption. Too long has it been under the yoke of corrupt scumbags.

wileycoyote Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Thepthai: Dubai accepted negotiation on Thaksin's extradition pact Personal Spokesperson of Democrat Party Leader Thepthai Senpong divulged that negotiations between Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) about Mr. Thaksin's extradition was now being made. Mr. Thepthai revealed that Thailand and UAE had already started the negotiations on Mr. Thaksin's extradition. He said Dubai agreed to coordinate with Thailand in dealing with the former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had filed documents to the Embassies to explain Mr. Thaksin's behavior and the allegations against him. Moreover, he said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also sought coordination from the International Police or Interpol to bring Mr. Thaksin back to Thailand to stand trial in the Thai juridical procedures. nikster Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Yesterday or before yesterday a Muslim community wrote a letter to the King of UAE, asking for help as the red shirts damaged their mosque. Maybe that also helps a little bit. Wow - hadn't thought of that but it's so true. Not just the mosque, either! I am absolutely 100% sure that no leader of a muslim country forgot what Thaksin did in the south of Thailand. Hiding in a muslim country? BAD MOVE, Mr. T! That could be his downfall, and it would be just too fitting that he is in some way held accountable for what he did.... I guess the list of countries where T. might find refuge is shrinking pretty rapidly.
Luciano1860 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 ...with the Lad's unfortunate and dare I say enormous SQUARE BLOCK HEAD, he can have fake passports from Nairobi to Finnland and be stopped at any moment by authorities for ordering a coke at a 7-11...I doubt a name change to Frank Smith Jr. on a new passport will do the lad much good...we'll be seeing our native son in chains by noon tomorrow.

kuffki Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 No big deal for him. When you have billions and you're on the run, you don't let your life depend on the Thai Foreign Ministry to cancel your passport or not. Do not get so much ahead of yourself. Any person worldwide by world standards or possibly even a law can only hold 2 passports. Now that everyone knows of Thai passport being revoked, he can only use one other. He may find it difficult to get around on just one passport especially when he is not allowed into any decent developed countries. I doubt China will be happy to have him back, after Chinese head of state had to run from Thailand. Which pretty much leaves him only some arab states and possibly drug country's, such as Panama or Nicaragua With Arab states, he may start to have a problem as he is now wanted criminal so they may ask him to leave to avoid international problems0they have enough as is. and spotting an asian person in Panama would not be too hard. So all in all, he may find himself in a little situation which i doubt he could even predict. Do not forget man who managed to rape the country and get so rich is very proud and i am sure he thought he would win this round.
animatic Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 "The decision to cancel his passport was based on passport issuing regulations, which state that the ministry can cancel or recall a passport if it can prove that a person has caused damage to the country," he said. Though, wouldn't it need to be decided by the courts if the person has done damage or not? Nobody is denying the events of the past days, but I would think that a court decision was needed. Look at the wording on the inside of your own passport. If it's anything like mine, the passport belongs to the issuing government (not you) and can be revoked as that government sees fit. Nothing out of the ordinary here. About time, and I think they were only waiting on him to publically going over the top in a way world opinion could not be swayed to ignore. He has done that, as I expected, and will pay the price I am not happy about it, more profound a sadness for this sad, sad person. But some measure of relief his hands are finally being removed from the levers of power he has so badly mishandled.

jesimps Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 This is still Thailand and no matter what you are found guilty of, he still has enough cash to buy anything he wants; including his freedom. We should never forget that. WRONG! Thaksin is not a very rich guy compared to other business people here in Thailand. Now the entire world will watch that legal procedure arround Thaksin and an "elephant can't be covered with a lotus leaf" ! /edit typing error They could be making a very big mistake by trying to bring him back, and if they do succeed, they'd better be very very careful about how they treat him. He has a huge following in Thailand, especially amongst the working class, who think the sun shines out of his rectum. If he's harmed in any way, it would be just the spark needed to ignite civil war. If I were Mr Abhisit, I'd leave Mr Thaksin were he is and send the democrat troublemakers over to join him.
