sanmiguel
Thing is where is the money going to come from for any major investment, Thailands had more then its fair share of the property bonanza boom money (ie Europe and Americas future taxes) for the last 10 years and on the whole its been squandered. This kind of easy money wont be available again for a long long time.

Basil B
I do not think there is much that can be done to rescue Pattaya, it is a lost cause. I think at this time more effort should be spent on trying to improve Jomtien with better building control and effective zoning.
deprogrammed
The plan: they intend to install some public parks and a public library. However, this will be after the new tram system and new drainage system are installed - the flooding of main roads after 30 mins of rain is a bit of a nuisance. All of the hookers are to be removed from the beach road (inc. ladyboys) so that familys can take their children for a walk without being corrupted. The street vendors displaying explicit porn in full view of passing tourist - incuding children - will be removed from footpaths. Baht buses will have to stop at special stops and taxis will use their meters. Attractions will charge the same entrance fees for all Edited April 18, 2009 by deprogrammed

(Not taking the p*ss out of the poster, but just had to laugh at how once again the Pattaya city counsel has become delusional.)

Cuban
> Plans are being made to transform the resort city into an orderly, green and clean destination. I think the translation given in the City Hall Book Of News-speak for this phase means; "Install a new sign or structure spelling out P A T T A Y A in large letters to promote the city." Roads remain dangerous, pickpockets remain on the street after small fines that are paid for by futher theft and tourist police are used to shut down establishments that make money AND are owned by non-Thais. Asianrider
a more pleasing Pattaya depends on who your target market is ? more defined Zoning might make it more accessible to a wider catchment of people
marsteele
As a start, remove the stray 4-legged dogs...and the 2 legged ones in the bars. Get rid of the sex industry and might be ok to take a family for a holiday. Children on holidays don't need all that stuff shoved in thier face when they try to go shopping. Also stop all the sex deviates going there just get rid of the whole industry.
