MisterMan Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I had to drive to Patong today and as I was on the beach road I saw the brown green waves crashing on the littered white sand .. YUK! The water was so disgusting!!! Hardly a tropical island scene.. I know they have their issues with algae but I never knew it was this bad.. Is it like that every season? Patong is just so disgusting with way to many slices of corporate America to add to the mess. Just a big mess! 2 BK 2 Starbuck 2 Subway.. Hard rock cafe how can anyone promote Patong as a destination??
LivinginKata Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Have you ever walked down the very south end of Patong beach at low tide where the klong comes out under the road bridge. Phew ... what a smell. I would never ever go in the water at Patong Beach, especially as there are so many other nicer, cleaner beaches around the Island.
Sir Burr Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 how can anyone promote Patong as a destination?? Easy. Patong is not about the beach anymore, it's about the nightlife.
katasyd Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 It's horrible, the water is brown. I also drove into Bangla rd and there is another Mcdonalds up there. I did not know that as i never go up there. Thats 3 within maybe 500m of each other Put one in Kata at least.
LivinginKata Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Put one in Kata at least. Oohh .. no. Not in Kata so soon... is there no hope. Now a Burger King might be a lot better..

Didn't you see Super Size Me? waiting for the 'i last visited x number of years ago when it was all bungalows and everything was free, now look at it......' its a dirty beach (and has been for a long time) but nearby many hotels so is of use to those visitors who don't leave patong during their stay - good luck to them and at least ronald wais
geriatrickid Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 how can anyone promote Patong as a destination?? Easy. Patong is not about the beach anymore, it's about the nightlife. And my promotional commentary of Bangla Rd, right? We had this same discussion last year and the year before. Patong Beach seems to attract the world's filthiest tourists, and others have quite rightly pointed out the raw sewage in the bay. I don't think much else can be said. Interesting though that down the road, Karon is still a wondeful beach to visit. Maybe there is a new tourist promotion in there? You know, something along the lines of you can swim with the dolphins in Florida but here in Patong we offer you the chance to taste the world as you swim with turds from around the world.

Zpete Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Haven't been to Patong in last 4 visits to Phuket Nai Harn for swimming. Chalong for food and bars.
