Thailand's film censors block 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno'

The National Film Board is standing by its decision to ban "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" in Thailand, citing that its explicit sexual content goes against moral principles here.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) iniฌtially gave "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" an NC17 rating (banฌning viewers under 17) for "some graphic sexuality". However, director Kevin Smith appealed and the film finally got an R with no cuts. The R, or "Restricted" rating, requires viewers under 17 years old to be accompanied by an adult.

Set in the United States, the comedy tells the story of friends embarking on a project to make a porn movie.

'May encourage copycats'

"The screening of this film may encourage copycats here," Culture Ministry permanent secretary Vira Rojpojchanarat said yesterday.

The film's distributor, M Pictures, argued that "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" was a satirical take on contemporary US society and was suitable for viewers aged over 18.

When the National Film Board decided to ban the film during its meeting on Monday, M Pictures appealed and a panel was set up to review the board's ruling.

After viewing the film, the panel upheld the decision to ban "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" from Thai screens.

I guess the Thai Censors were just bore, however over the course of my stay in the Kindgom, having seen some of the things they censor, this doesn't surprise me at all.

I think unofficially in the US, theaters and advertising went by the name Zack and Miri. They couldn't use the full name on billboards in Los Angeles and probably other places as well. It's playing on demand on Verizon tv service with that title. I believe the storyline is they're broke so they decide to make the movie for money. I can see them wanting to not run that storyline here.

It was an awful movie anyway. Another Seth Rogen borefest.

As bad as that movie was, yes it is bad, it is still better than most of the imported dross screened in Thailand.

Censoring.....another pathetic joke in the land of almost.....

I seen the movie and the movie doesn't revolve around porn. These two were just planning on making a movie for money.

This is in a country where it is morally wrong to wear short shorts and skirts but is acceptable to have many lesser wives and can get full pleasure every 100 meters on Ratchada and Phetburi road.

I bought the DVD (outside of the country at the time) and I laughed my t*ts off! (then again, i liked 'pineapple express too) The scene where they are searching for a name of their porn movie based on an original film title is classic... I don't wish to spoil it for anyone else, but my favourite was "Cocc*nt" as opposed to "Cocoon"...

The language was strong and there was a pretty central porn theme... shame it's banned.
