Boater
TWO foreign tourists were arrested in separate incidents recently on Koh Phangan on charges of marijuana and amphetamine possession. Paiboon Omak, Koh Phangan district chief, identified the suspects as Michel Fillip, 47, a Dutch man, and Dennis Aaschibachef, 31, a Russian. Mr. Paiboon said Mr. Fillip was arrested at his rented room in Moo 4, Ban Tai subdistrict. He was caught with 10 grams of marijuana and two amphetamine tablets. Mr. Aaschibachef, of Moscow, was caught with 109 amphetamine tablets at a bungalow in a coconut farm. The two suspects admitted that they were engaged in drug dealing. They said most of their clients were tourists like them. Paiboon said Phangan island has lately gained notoriety for drug use among the Full Moon Party revelers, who come from around the world. Two of the latest drug arrests on that island were made during the Feb. 10 Full Moon Party — South African Peewee Tony Em, who was caught with 16 grams of cocaine; and Thai bar owner Mrs. Phanee Impao, who was caught with 450 grams of marijuana. A police report said at least 30 drug arrests have been made since January at the Full Moon Party. Authorities said they would want to clean up the image of Phangan and promote it as an eco-tourism destination. In related developments: * Three youngsters were arrested in their rented room in Bophut after a search team found 19 sachets of methamphetamine, or ice, and 14 tablets of yaa baa, or amphetamine, as well as a .45-mm automatic gun with five rounds of ammunition. Dolaphak Ritchu, 22, Arm, 18, and Aof, 18, all admitted to selling drugs to tourists and teenagers on Koh Samui. * Police arrested Paithon Jaiphet, 45, for possession of 2,000 tablets of yaa baa in Bophut. Mr. Paithon admitted to being a drug dealer because he said it was a lucrative business, especially in this time when the economy is bad. * On Koh Phangan, two Thais were arrested on charge of transferring marijuana to sell to tourists during the Full Moon Party last March 10. Saksid Preesin, 52, and his brother Wanchai, 40, of Udonthani province, were riding in a pickup carrying 480 kilograms of marihuana when they were intercepted in Chumphon province by highway police. They were bound for Koh Phangan. — http://news.samuiexpress.net/2-tourists-ca...with-drugs.html

It should, especially when they pick it up, realize that it is stuck to the floor, and then try to pick it up again. They WANT the degredation. Sorry, slow day at the officer here...... Perhaps they were headed to Koh Phangan but certainly the Koh Phangan police would have not been involved in this arrest in any way since it took place in Chumphon. I wonder how a pickup truck loaded up with half a ton of marijuana would make it onto the car ferry? Amazing Thailand indeed.
yorkie100
hope all those drug pushers have a nice long long holiday at the Hilton Bangkok.. I couldn't agree more, not got the brains they were born with especially pushing drugs in Thailand. There is a large notice at every entry point to the Kingdom saying anyone caught with certain classes of drugs, the penalty is life in jail or the death penalty. Drug pushing is indefensible. Even users, they deserve to be punished too, maybe to a lesser degree, that's up to the courts. I have experienced first hand the mis-use of drugs in the UK when I saw a newly born baby, the daughter of a partner of mine born addicted to heroin. It's OK for people to say 'but it's only a small amount for personal use'. but they should know, the law is the law and it's there for a reason, why can't they wake up to the fact? Badbanker
Mr. Paiboon said Mr. Fillip was arrested at his rented room in Moo 4, Ban Tai subdistrict. So Mr. Fillip gets 2 years and the Russian gets 10-20! 1 amphetamine tablet get you a mandatory 6 weeks detention and a black list entry with immigration. Not worth taking the risk ha! Don't do drugs in Thailand people! It is so much not fun if you do get caught! Seen it so many times from very very close up!
