Hi guys,

Ive just been layed off from work and things are looking pretty shit at the moment,, Ive got about 4k sterling in the bank, Not a lot i know but,,,,,,

Well what i want to know is if i head over to thailand and look for work what are my chances? Ive been to thailand many times over the years and so have an idea of what im heading for.

Im not into fuc_king a differnet girl everynight and hardly drink... ( Really its true :o:D )

So if i head out of the uk in search of the new life in thailand , What are my chances of finding work that i can live on and have the odd day out on the town and maybe meet up with a fulltime girl over there.

Also if anyone has any job contacts that they can help me with then pm me and i can send over a C.V

Ive been fitting sky television for the last 4yrs, Have all my qualifications in sattelite engineering, Iam excellent on computers and problem solving am 100% hard working, honest, reliable and a team player

Thanks for listening

Very slim chances mate unless you speak fluent Thai and are willing to work for a much, much lower wage then you are used to back home. Also remember that the economy is tough for Thai's as well now so you will be competing for work with the incumbents which carry a number of negative factors for you. The technology arena is also full of qualified Thai engineers as well.

Given your skills and experience, I'd say you have just about zero chance of finding a job. Many people with some academic qualifications (preferably a degree) end up teaching English, but I think you should rule out that one, too.

Thailand is not the place to try and get yourself together.

I suggest that you look at Vietnam. There are some good employment websites like navigos and vietnam works.

They are still looking for people there as the country hasn't been that exposed to today's economic challenges.

Good luck....

so you think Vietnam is the place to get yourself together with 4k. Subtract a rt-ticket and you and up with a budget that is even tough for a 2 week tourist.

To the OP: if there is anything to recommend then don't leave your place until you are either in a better financial situation or a specialist in a niche field for thailand, better both. Looking out for luck is the wrong idea and a waste of time and money.

I'll word my reply differently so that anyone can understand it.

Look at the two resources that I mentioned and send them your resume. Maybe you'll get a break.

Good Luck.

If you are the gambling type and have a return ticket if the account falls to 0 I say go for it. But if you are putting all your eggs in the Thailand basket and are burning bridges than there is no way you should come here. I took a year off work to try out a life in Thailand. While here I have investigated working options out of curiosity, not need and have found absolutely nothing that even remotely looks like something I'd enjoy doing for what I'd call a reasonable wage. I am picky so you might have more success. Also I never drink or go to bars. I have what I consider a very honest and good girl but between us both I will have easily spent over 1 Million Baht this year. When I came here I intended to live on 30K Baht ad month, I could do it if needed but I realized I would have gotten very bored. Also given I love and respect my girl I felt compelled to invest in her future and have paid for Private English instruction for the past year. Also I plan to marry her and take her to America. I hired a lawyer + visa fees has added to my expenses. Finally we have taken trips all over Thailand and Singapore. I have lived within my means but I ended up spending much more than I thought I would. To maintain the lifestyle I have become accustom to here simply would not be possible with most of the employment options I see. For me living in Thailand is not something I must do by any means necessary, read.. living in Klong Toei, eating grilled rat and praying I have enough left over for a barfine. I would only have chosen to stay here if it were an overall quality of life improvement which it is not for me.

I like complaining about Thailand but deep down I do love it here and love Thai people, I just have decided it's not a place I want to build my life. I am very thankful I came and came well funded since many unexpected expenses have snuck up on me and I have not burned bridges and can likely go back to my old job.

In short think carefully and realistically about what kind of life you expect to have here and try to assess if you can sustain that. Coming without a job and only enough to make it a few months til you find one is not a good idea.

Try the vacancies on this website???...timeshare is available in Samui, Phuket and BKK....commission only, can be fun but also hard work and if you aint any good, you dont get paid....Ican already see a few vacancies for real estate....no experience required but a low basic and to be realistic, nobody is buying. Its not as cheap here as a few years ago...exchange rate has made it exceptionally expensive for anyone dependant on money from the U.K. 4k sterling, minus ticket, thats about 180,000 baht.. wont last you that long....if you do come, get yourselfe a visa from Hull first as only allowed 15days on entry now.
