Hi All,

I downloaded some free software yesterday and along with it came a Trojan Horse. My AVG anti virus recognised it put it in the virus vault. I have since done a full scan using AVG and it did not find anything. When i restarted my computer the Trojan appeared again AVG caught it again and put it in the vault. I have run the windows malicious software tool and that also found and removed it, but on restart it appeared again.

The Trojan Horse is called Crypt.DRQ and is attached to a DLL file. Does anyone know how to remove this problem.

Thanks, Rick

You will need tu run CureIt in save mode so the most windows systems files are unprotected at the time of scanning and can be cleaned.

Cheers.

Thanks webfact and Reimar. I am just downloading cureit at this moment, so I will run it soon and let you know the results. Maybe a stupid question but how do I start up in safe mode?

Cheers, Rick

depends on your motherboard. With my Asus its F5. So check out yours. Push that key during boot. Then a screen will come up and you will see 2 "safe mode". I suggest select the one "...without networking"

It might take a while until it is loaded

Most of the Mainboards and windows itself is using the F8 key while booting the computer.

The first run will be a quick mode in CureIt and you need to let them run finish. After that start the scan again but this time you can choose All Drives.

Cheers.

Do not forget for future use of Cure It that you need download every time the latest version from http://www.freedrweb.com because this program never installs and can't be updated. The only way: New download!

I did exactly as you said (F8 key on my machine) The program ran and found 3 infected files. The have been deleted and things are back to normal now. You might have seen my other thread about Nero not being able to find my DVD burner? Well this has also fixes that problem. I have made a note of the website address just in case I need to use it again in the future.

Thanks very much for your help guys it's much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Rick

I used to have these problems until I switched to Apple.

You mean when you switched over to an overpaid under preforming computer that looks cool ? Don't worry once there are enough users of those machines viruses will follow too.

Save the file to the root of your C Drive.

Reboot the Computer and press F8 within booting, which will bring up a screen with an Menu and here you choose Save Mode without Networking

Restart the computer

First you need to run the quick mode and after that run the Full Scan again

OK another brief thread hijack again, please excuse.

A friend's laptop got "Crawler" search toolbar on it, goodness knows where. I can't seem to get it to uninstall, a few foreign language boxes come up (Czeck, Russian?). I googled for fixes, one suggestion had to do with getting into the registry, that's a tiny bit over my head.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks!

I replied to your other "Hijack" (Firefox) already

Take a look: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Extensions_Uninstall
