Appropriate usage of ปากหวาน

I feel a bit silly giving a background story as to why Im asking this question, but i feel its necessary in order to be clear about whether or not I used it inappropriately.

Basically I have had several appointments with a dentist who likes to test me on my Thai. He fitted a tooth crown for me and I as I wasnt sure when he asked me if im happy with it, I asked for his opinion. He teased me by saying i am the most beautiful girl who ever had walked into his clinic. Made me laugh and I called him ปากหวาน. He joked back จริงจริง. So, it was lighthearted and funny. But..in hindsight im wondering if its not the kind of thing a woman can normally joke with a man in general. Or, is it considered just harmless banter and fun?

Sorry about the silly girlishness to this post. Just in English I like to be fun and lighthearted, I wish to be myself when I speak Thai too, but, at the same time, i dont want to make any major faux pas.

I don't think you need to worry. Nothing rude about ปากหวาน, and not overly forward either. Unless you have a very jealous partner who might take exception there's no harm done...

In my experience banter goes down well with most Thais, although leaving the sarcasms and ironies out is usually a good idea.

It's a playful term and nothing wrong using it in the situation. Good ice breaker, especially saying it to a dentist.

ปากหวาน can also be used in certain tone/with other word to turn down the speaker advancement, sort of reducing the meaning to a friendly joke.

ปากหวาน without real meaning - "ปากหวานไปยังงั้นเอง"

Just ปากหวาน - "ก็แค่ปากหวาน"

I might have mistyped หนึ่ง & หรือ. I haven't typed in Thai for a long time. Here is the translation.

The guy said: Khun Neung, you're the most beautiful woman.

The other guy who followed Khun Neung said: Sounds like San Sap Canal.

The guy asked: What did you mean?

The other guy said: I meant foul water.

doesn't sound that funny in English, but we also call soap opera 'ละครน้ำเน่า'. That's what the second guy meant, the first guy's line sounded like it came out from a soapy.

My personal line regarding คลองแสนแสบ is แสนแสบ กลายเป็นคลองแสนสาบ (meaning กลิ่นสาบ)

To OP I wonder if anyone heard the full version of ปากหวาน line - which was told to me as ปากหวาน ก้นเปรี้ยว ?

And I had some dubious results from using it. Anyway it was back then when I was young and foolish.

ปากหวาน ก้นเปรี้ยว = Hypocrite

I think ปากหวาน can be perfectly used separately, saying ปากหวาน ก้นเปรี้ยว is not heard much in general conversation nowaday.

I feel I understand well about ปากหวาน in regards to bf/gf etc, and that it can it be used amongst friends or in a joking way to a man who is saying something complementary.

But what about female to female?

Ie: In English if i were given a compliment by another women, I may reply something along the lines of "Oh you are too kind!", by way of a thank you, also to try show that i accept the compliment humbly.

In Thai, if a lady were to complement another lady, can ปากหวาน be used as a kind of joke/tease retort? To joke off the complement (ie: to try to show a humbleness in a way), or could it cause embarrassment/offense or be considered too personal/intimate?
