Whenever i go to immigration you can always pick out the foreign men who have married a working girl from a mile away.

The women all dress the same, tight jeans, tank top and a baseball hat (with all items displaying some kind of tacky slogan).

And also a few tattoos exposed.

I always figured when working they dress that way to attract customers, and basically say "Open for business". Fair enough.

But if you are already (i'm assuming) married (not sure why else they would be at immigration with a foreign guy), why continue to wear the "open for business" uniform?

Maybe they just enjoy dressing this way? Also fair enough, but this would also lead me the question; maybe they just enjoy working in that industry?

Well maybe they dress that way to make Mr. Hansumm happy? Or, maybe they don't know any better. If you came out of a shack, had no education, never been exposed to a different way of life and had worked for a decade or more servicing foreign trash that liked the look, would you know any different?

Anyway, who cares. It's not as if you are going to invite them over for tea and a game of charades now are you?

You don't learn class, You don't learn trashiness.

They're born trashy, they just cannot help it.

just smirk at the guy, and enjoy the mental distraction while you wait for your turn.

If I remember correctly, most had much less on when working.......... so they may think they look decent now? :)

Btw. if they go and live in a Western Country, they will blend in just fine with other (not "working" Woman). So who cares at the end.

They dress that way to afford you your moment of superiority.

Just ignore them and keep an eye out for the ones who pretend to be something they are not.... And never ever forget, the most dangerous lies are the lies we tell ourselves.

I think that's the point

So i guess that what you saying is that they are being "who they are"; so does being a working girl need to become "who you are", opposed to "what you do/did".

Which is a shame that more cannot draw the line and say "That's what i did", not "who i am".

I'm not sure I buy into the idea of them just not noticing that they are dressing in that way, or don't know any better.

And also others have said, correctly, there are nothing wrong with the actual clothes, you might see several teens wearing the exact same thing in a mall in the US. But put into context of a Thai women, in Thailand, with foreign man there is only 1 result.

It almost seems like making a statement, "Yes i'm a pro, and proud of it"....but why are you proud of it?

I used to work at Burger King when i was a teenager, but don't see me walking around in my BK uniform...

it's not only the clothes but the way they move and behave.

Also those girls in the malls in the US, have had sex with as many people as those ex-bargirls in much less time, very very often nowadays with the sexual revolution in the west.

Almost everyone one from every sex is a whore nowadays

In 10years holding hands and having 1 sex partner will be kinky stuff

There are just as many, IF not more foreigners exhibiting extremely poor dress code and lack of any cognizant grasp of reality in dealing with a government agency who controls your ability to stay in the glorious “Land ‘O Thais”, as compared to their (in)significant thai others.

I have lost count of number of ill-kept, very rough looking foreign men wearing their 90 baht cargo shorts, Singha Beer singlet and cheap sandals all the while sporting Jatukam and/or Buddha amulets on heavy gold chains at Suan Plu Immigrations. Often they are loud, argumentative, and have not the slightest understanding of the visa rules (which as oxymoronic as they may seem to us; are never the less the rules).

I will however concede that you are correct in your observation that all too often said foreigners are accompanied by a dark, diminutive, splayed-toed, skimpily dressed, usually tattooed, often pierced, and always gold encrusted "thai-in-tow".

As I travel to Suan Plu 2 or 3 times a month; I am continually amazed at the lack of dress code, and poor conduct exhibited by this foreign ‘contingent’. I have also noticed the "wink-and-a-nod" looks the Immigration Clerks give each another when they face a disparately aged couple, as well as how they subtly react to poorly dressed, ill-kept and/or applicants who think they are a “special case”.

I am all for a “wear what you want - be who you wanna be” attitude, but there are certain situations where “acting” or dressing for the part counts for more than 50% in actual objective attainment.

Even the people I accompanied to Suan Plu whose visas were subsequently denied, at least were treated politely and courteously by the thai staff. Then again I won’t go with someone who won’t at least pretend to be a “human bean”. (purposely misspelled for sardonic humor)

(Please read this post carefully; lest you think I am disparaging the thais, as can be seen; I equally disparage foreigners, and like to think of myself as an equal oportunity disparager) :)

Like Gary A says "Who cares!" Judging an individual on the outside shows a particular negative trait. Nothing personal but I wounder how any of us knows what a bar girl looks like? And I dont believe any straight male would complain about a lady showing anything of course unless it is his girl.

Let me just say I had not seen that at Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, or Swine Poo immigration offices. I don't notice bar girls. The bar boys dress better. :)

Fluorescent day-glo does nothing for me PB, whatever the gender :D

Let them wear what they want to wear who are you to judge.

I myself try to wear a lil bit more polite clothes when i go there but i hate dressing up in this country its much too hot to do so.

In Holland as an accountant i managed not to wear a suit most of the times i just hate dressing up. If clothes determine what you know than we live in a sad world. I like to be judged on my knowledge not on what i wear.

I have noticed that more TV members are acting uppity and snooty. I'm glad I live upcountry and don't have to hear their criticism of my cheap flip flops, cheap shorts and cheap T shirts.

You wear want you want to wear and I don't worry about it. Why would anyone want to generalize people by how they dress?

I like it. Seeing some Patpong Princess prancing around in revealing clothes always gives me the horn -- in an airport or in a bar.

What's the problem?

I love my cheap shorts and cheap T shirts, why the hel_l would i dress up in a hot country like this. I use 3 t shirts a day and when they dont look good after a while i just replace them with more cheap t-shirts.

Anyone dressed in a full suit in this hot country if they don't absolutely have to are fools.

Because they are still, even though they're " Married " ??? :)

Just a thought & not too far away from the truth i doubt..

Dave OP, why does it bother you so much ? I try hard not to worry about other peoples problems, as my own need to have priority.

Well I think you are wrong in this assumption. At least in Pattaya where I live, I too suffer much embarrassment on behalf of all farangs when I too have business at immigration and see the specie of fereng you describe in his tank-top t-shirt, shorts, flip-flops, and unshaven face makes an appearance with a bargirl in tow.

However, it's obvious to me that these ferengs are tourists and there to obtain tourist visa or 30-day entry extensions (for the most part) and have no clue as to the procedure. The bargirl is there to assist the walking ATM in obtaining a extension of their stay in country for another few days/weeks. She is probably very well versed in the procedure having done it many times in the past for love-lorn ferengs who have been in her company and didn't want to return to reality when their holiday was up.

you can always live in a country where the girls don't dress like they do here....like, oh I don't know...Iran. They even have special police who enforce dress codes...
