Hi ! Recently I had my wind shield hit by a small pebble while driving on the freeway, resulting in a tiny pinhole crack. Is there anyone who knows how I can repair it without replacing the whole piece?

Back in NZ there was a franchise outfit called Novus, and that's all they did, repair small chips & cracks on windscreens. They put a polymer into it, sealed it up, buffed it down, one hour. Car parts shops started carrying a DIY kit that did pretty much the same thing; it's worth looking for and quickly, before it spreads.

You need to be a bit careful here. somew vehicles in Thailand are still dfitted with ZONE TOUGHENED glass - as opposed to laminated.

Check for this....

because apart from being a hazard in a crash they are unpredictable a slight chip can suddenly - with the lightest of taps - turn into a completely shattered windscreen - this is something that you would want to avoid as the shock factor alone is enough to cause a further accident....it's also very messy - you'll be picking out chips of glass from your car for years!

all in all you are much better advised to get a replacememt window in any case - in UK a chip over a certain size even on a laminated screen, will fail the car's roadworthy test. On the laminated screen the crack wil just s;lowly extend across trhe screen.

Before you take out the broken screen, put a layer of tape on it and THEN remove the stuff. You will save a lot of work... Picking the chips out of the airducts will kill you :)

If it happens whilst going along you will have about 20 minutes before the crazing spreads so much that visibility becomes impossible - then trying to puinch a hole in it is where the fun starts.

A laminated screen - and I suggest you specify that for the replacement - whatever the original was, will cost about 5 to 6 thousand baht.
