Stories from monland, etc.

Hi...

I live in a pretty remote Mon (Burmese ethnic minority) village in central/western Thailand. My girlfriend (from Chiang Rai) and I teach English to children and teenagers for free, and I also teach web design and programming to a dedicated Mon guy. We generally have fun. Anyway, I've made a website where I post stories from here, along with other random things to read from friends all over the world. Stop by for a look: http://technokracy.net

What did you use to build your site?

The main site is based on Geeklog (http://www.geeklog.net/), a very well done portal/blog package that is open source and uses PHP and MySQL. I'm a PHP programmer, so I played with it a little, and also created my own "theme" for the site from scratch. My blog page uses Blosxom (http://www.blosxom.com/), an incredible single file (450 lines of perl) script. I played with that a little too. Both are working out great! I wrote a PHP command line script allowing me to simply send an email to a special address I set up and have the email body posted on my blog page. Great for travelling!
Hi grrr, Interesting stuff. Will the new immigration regs be of any fret on your lifestyle and obvious benevolent self.

If you are referring to the visa agent/fake visa crackdown, no problem for me. We take a trip to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Mae Sai every three months. It's nice to get away...
