No Ppp Light On Modem

Featured Replies

My Maxnet supplied modem has just died on me.

I was on-line then suddenly lost the connection and noticed the ppp light had gone out and as a result I now cannot connect to the internet.

Any answers as to why that happened and what if anything I can do to get the ppp light to fire up again……Cheers.

I run the modem start up disc and that’s done nothing.

Maybe a problem with your ISP or phone line? Try giving the ISP a call and ask if there's any problem with your connection - they can check if they are still supplying signal and run you through checking or configuring your modem.

Thanks for reply and suggestion Crushdepth.

I've been running my SOLOMON EDGE modem to post this question on TV and after a couple of attempts at firing the modem up with no ppp light showing therefore 'no connection' it's now come back on again.

I haven't tried connecting to the net as yet but i think it was a blip on the part of ????

We learn something everyday.

Once again thanks.

If you have a phone on the same line checking that it still has a dial tone is one check. If the phone line is working it is usually just your modem and a reset will get it going again. Easy way is to remove power for a couple of seconds and then plug back in. If still not working time to call provider and have them check (unless you have a spare modem). I would give it a couple of hours as sometimes there adsl equipment will go offline (especially during storms) and has to be reset and things will take care of themselves.

Thanks lopburi3

No telephone, just a direct line for internet use.

Did all the usual unplugging bit and ran the disc but to no avail.

In the end it was down-time from my ISP which came back again after a couple of hours.

It was the first time I’d experienced this as I’m new to broadband usage but if it should happen again I now have little bit of knowledge on possible reason why.

Actually the PPP light indicates that your username/password combo has been accepted by the ISP and internet access is available.

Normally you'll have two additional indicators, one being LAN (connectivity between your PC and the modem) and ADSL (connectivity between your modem and the DSLAM at the telephone exchange, indicating a proper phone line).

When the PPP light goes, either the ISP has a problem, something went wrong in your modem and the proper username/password settings got lost, or you didn't pay your bill :)
