I am going into my 4th month on my first year of a "Non-immigrant O multi-entry visa" based on marriage to a Thai citizen. I just went to the border to get another 3 month stamp today. Do I need to do this or am I eligible to report to a local immigration office instead? Thanks!

You have a visa for visa entry - that means exit/entry. If you can qualify for extension of stay with 400k in bank account or 40k income then you would be able to stay for one year at a time without exit - only making 90 day address reports to Immigration. Cost is 1,900 baht for the extension of stay.

My visa stamp is good until January 2010. The entry stamp is only good for another 90 days.

I don't need an extension of stay right now since my visa is good until January 2010 correct?

So I should continue leaving the country every 3 months until January 2010 when my non-imm O visa expires. Then, when I show my 400k in the bank I can get a one year "extension of stay" correct? Applying for an extension of stay right now would be pointless since I already have a visa until January 2010 correct?

Gosh, I must be making this more confusing then it should be. :)

Up to you as they say. You can extend during the last 30 days of any entry and the not have to make visa runs. If you do not mind the travel (or use as a mini vacation) then it probably best to wait until later.
