It has been my experience that you don't get much of a trade in on lower end cameras, and certainly none at all on the older film type cameras. I'm not sure if a camera shop will even take a digital camera in on a trade. There is a SMALL market for high end Nikon, Canon and German SLR cameras, but you lose so much it is better to give the camera to someone you like than trade it in.
