Problem With Speakers

Featured Replies

When I try to use my PC speakers all I get is a horrible hissing sound, everything is connected correctly but I dont have another pair to try. Could it be the sound card? When I had the PC built the guy fitted a spare sound card he had lying around as I dont use it for playing music so didnt want to spend money on it, until now the sound has been ok....any ideas anyone?

I'll take it you hear white noise when the speakers are turned up full or do you get white noise at a low volume?

Off the top of my head things to check.

Is the sound turned on in the computer? Have a look at the task bar for the speaker symbol double click this and check all the settings.

Turn on and off the speakers.

Check the speaker cable.

Try plugging in headphones to the same socket to see if audio is coming out.

When you pull the jack for the speakers from the computer with the speakers still powered do you still hear the white noise?

Can you test the speakers on a Mp3 player or similar to see if they work from another source?

It's a matter of trying all these things until you find the culprit.

Ive twiddled the cables but to no avail. :)

Just a thought check, your audio driver.

When I did a system reinstall some time ago I was getting just white noise from the speakers took a while to figure I had no audio driver installed :)
