Hi everyone,

I have been in thai for a while and everything seems fine but one thing that keeps bothering me is about recysling service here. I have had a lots of old newspaper and everyday keeps getting plastis food cans and glass bottles that i really want to give them all for a recycling. I have asked the people in the building office where i am living about where i can go for it but surprisingly they had no idea about what, and i also tried to ask some thai friends of mine, they did not know either. This is why i am writing now with a hope that somebody can tell me where i can find a recycle company in bangkok because i dont want to keep throwing all away, its just a waste and not good to add more pollution to the earth that is being on a warning for global warm. Hope to get replies from you guys. Thanks a lot in advance.

They probably sift out the metals and plastics at a later stage anyway as it's all money, so wouldn't worry too much.

There's a few of them up here in Chiang Mai and they actually pay you for it - aluminium (aluminum) cans (beer!) are good. Have a drive around and look for the signs and/or a mountain of plastic bottles.

Put them all outside in the soi and they will disappear like magic. Some soul will whisk all your recyclables away and be a few baht better off for it.

The first time we had a big party at my house, I got upset when all the thai guest just threw the empty bottles on the floor. Woke up worse for wear dreading the clean up. Walked outside to discover a near spotless garden.

At my old apartment in BKK we used to put plastics, paper and metal in separate bags and a kid would pop around every few days to take them away.

the garbage men do it for you. they seperate anything of value out and sell it on..

do them a favour if you want be seperating it into different bags, but it is more than efficient as it stands in my book and I guess more stuff gets reccyled here than in the west, where there is less economic incentive to do so....

I used to drink Chang Light, but after a few bad bottles, i now drink Leo, consiststant beer, always nice, for a case of chang [12] empties, i get 6ht, for Leo, 10bht, Mrs salon is a great source of plastic too, so weekly sales for re-cycle are always near 150ht, and for 20 bht more, i have 4 Leos,

Yes, Re-cycle and have a few free beers!!! cheers, Lickey..

Thanks guys,

But the problem is i havent seen any scrap year since i was in bkk or probally i dont know where they are located. Im living in sukhumvit now. I know the garbage men gonna pick the stuffs up and sell to recycle company but im not sure about the old newspaper, 'cause i have had a lot of old paper here, maybe they will use them for something else...not really recycling so it would be a big waste of energy. This is really a headdache. Pls help!

Normally the recycle company buy paper too.Just keep it dry in a plastic bag if you leave it outside. Here on the island there are some guys who do the job, when i have plenty of tins, bottles, plastic and paper,i just call them. It's a pity that some big resorts here don't take care of recycling.God knows where all rubbish goes..

We've got recycling up here in Issan.

Funny!

Little old fella comes around in an even more geriatric pick-up from the 18th century. Gathers your cardboard boxes and crap together and weighs the stuff.

Now here's the thing. He stacks as much as possible on a pair of scales A..A..A..Arkwright would be proud of, so high his arms are raised right up trying to stabilise this leaning tower of pizza box. Thus putting weight on it.

Then he comes up to you bearing money. I say what for? "Fowr garbpage." He gets the hump if you refuse (did you see the little pun there, did you?).

Economics Issan stylie!
