Bangkok wants Govt support to solve traffic congestion

BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration needs the support of the new government to successfully solve the capital city’s traffic congestion, a senior city official told TNA on Saturday.

The city’s administration needs the new government’s support if it is to push ahead with its various projects to reduce traffic jams, said the capital’s top municipal official, Khun Ying Nathanon Thavisin.

Thailand goes to the polls on Sunday to elect a new government to run the country for the next four years. Mr. Thaksin and his Thai Rak Thai Party remain confident that they will be re-elected.

''To solve Bangkok’s traffic problems, we need the support of the new government to push ahead with planned projects to reduce traffic congestion. We need cooperation from government agencies to make it happen,'' the BMA's permanent secretary said.

The Bangkok authorities have drawn up plans to build trams, to run new express buses, and to extend the elevated train routes.

''The cabinet has approved the extension project, but has insisted that it must be totally financed by a private company. But so far no investor has come forward,'' she said.

The BMA plans to build four more elevated train routes linking the city centre with outlaying areas.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra had earlier promised to support the new Bangkok governor, after the city’s residents elected a candidate from the opposition Democrat Party last August.

I seem to recall that the guy at the top of the government once said he could all such problems within a six month time frame.

They need the services of a good illusionist , someone like David Blane , because they will never administer the nasty medicine that is required to solve the problem , because it would upset too many bangkokians .

so they will go thru the motions same as before . TIT

there nothing any body can do to solve the traffic jam, i like the governor of bangkok, but even him can't do anything. thai people buying car faster than they are building road.

Congestion charges seem to work here in the Smoke and are being expanded so perhaps a pop in Bangers could happen......say maybe ....500 bt a day to enter the "toon"

Seem to remember someone tried it before but the brown suited insurance collection agents didna like it :o
