When visiting Sri Songkram we usually fly to Sakorn Nakorn airport but due to PB Air changing schedules it might be easier for us to fly to Nakorn Phanom. Does anyone have experience of this route? On the map it looks like there is not much in it distance wise but not sure about the time. Also, is there a good supermarket in Nakorn Phanom i.e Lotus or Big C?

I fly both routes quite often as do various other board members.

If flying into Nakhon Phanom, your drive to Si Songkram will take you around 45 minutes or so.

Yes, there is a Tesco Lotus in Nakhon Phanom it is located on the main road in from the airport. Whether it is any good would be open to debate ?? :) No big C or any other well known supermarkets in Nakhon Phanom.

Are you sure about the 45 min drive? It looks longer looking at the map.

Okay 45 mins is maybe a bit quick, but no more than one hour for sure.

However long it takes it beats flying via Sakorn and having to get up at a very unsociable hour.

Just hope my sister in law can find the airport :)

I`ve done both routes many times and much prefer the Sakhon route its quicker to Sri Songkram, also the Lotus in Nakhon is not as good as Big C.

I heard that about the shopping, and used to like the Sakorn route but now PB air have ditched the Saturday flight, Nakorn seems to have the only decent flight times. I also heard that PB air now use turbo prop planes which take an extra half an hour to get there, still I guess it beats the coach :)

The last time I flew with them it was actually a Bangkok Airways plane not as good and with no beer :D There are no other options though so were stuck and I`d never consider the coach as you said.

Why is it things always seem to get harder and not easier? I can trade an extra half an hour on a plane for a 12 hour coach ride any day. Still looking forward to getting back regardless. :D

Well, it did take a while to get to NP o the crappy Bangkok Air propellor planes that have replaced PB air's jets but once there it was a much nicer drive to Sri Songkram for me. I think there is less traffic and it was a more scenic route. Unless the PB air schedule changes again (doubtfull), I will probably continue to fly via Nakorn Phanom for now. The actual drive did take me less than an hour as Mr Conrad pointed out.

I agree the Lotus in NP is not so good and will continue to do my weekly supply run to Sakorn, especially since I found my way to Makro.

I am still tempted to try the VIP coach at least once just to see how it is..................... or will I?

In regard to the VIP, I have taken this a few times to travel up to Sakon Nakhon.

I'm 6'3 and find the VIP very comfortable.

Ok, it takes a lot longer than the plane but if you have time and you are a cheap bastard like me then I

recommend it.

Either take the day time bus or the night time.Take in the sights or catch up on your sleep.

The choice is yours!!!!!

6'3", that's good news, I was worried about legroom and I am only 5'11". I might just give it a try. Cheers.

Is there another option for the bus?

Smart ass.

What I meant was, the VIP bus leaves early morning or late afternoon.I think there was several VIP's but

all within an hour of each other.

Hope this clears things up Terry.
