2nd Hand Rack Servers

Featured Replies

Has anyone seen any places selling 2nd hand rack mounted servers in BKK or online in Thailand?

Cheers for any advice :)

There are some shops at Pantip, Fortune and Zeer that have what you want. Can't tell you the shop names but I think there are a couple in the same part of Fortune as the Data IT store. The others you will just have to walk around unless someone can give you some names but you will know them when you see them from the window displays.

Pantip definitely has at least a couple of shops selling second hand rack servers although if you want my advice you'd be better off buying a new desktop PC (something with easy to replace hardware) and sticking it in a rack. The performance of a new desktop PC would probably be much greater unless it was a very recently decommissioned server. Bear in mind that rack servers tend to use proprietary components that may be difficult or expensive to source and by the time a server gets to Pantip it is usually well out of date.

If you really want a rack server, there is a shop at Pantip selling empty rack server cases; you could buy one of these and then build your own server.

Maybe it would be a good idea to post the requirement incl. specification you're looking for?! Also what OS pp. you will use!

Cheers.

I'll be running win 2k8 server on them. Half decent CPU's, 2gb of RAM, 100gb+ on RAID 1's. :)

You have?

I might just get a couple of these, and put an extra 1gb of RAM and some disks in them:

IBM System x3250-M2 (P/N 4190C2A)

Any thoughts?

This shop is called Jinan - they have many locations throughout "IT plazas" in Bangkok.
