Education should be new priority

BANGKOK: -- A Thai education expert has urged the new government to make education one of the country’s top priorities in the next four years.

When Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra forms a new government after Sunday’s election, he should concentrate on education, said the Chulalongkorn education expert, Sompong Jitradab.

The government should improve elementary education, review medium-level vocational schools so they can produce skilled workers for local industries, improve school teacher’s living conditions and reduce their work loads, transfer management of education to local organisations, and create a true knowledge-based learning system in the country’s colleges and universities.

Academics and educators believe Education Minister Adisai Bhodaramik is likely to be re-appointed to see through the government’s educational reform plans, introduced during its first four-year term of office.

I think it's likely. Taksin seems to model his job based on what he sees Tony Blair doing over in Europe as he isn't capable of producing ideas of his own. He is no different to Thai pirates who copy European computer games and DVDs for their own gain.
