Hotel Downtown Chiang Mai With A Pool That Gets Sun All Day!

Is there such a place? I am flexible about location, can be near night market, Taphae Gate, Nimmanheim Rd, but someplace central and walkable. Main criteria are location, and swimming pool that gets a lot of sun, at least most of the day.

Thanks!

Wow tywais thanks for the quick reply. Top North pool looks good, and rooms are cheap! You can vouch that the pool gets sun all day? Out of curiosity, how are the rooms? Will I get CNN or Al Jazeera?

thanks!

Can't remember if all day since I'm usually there only to recover sleep. :) I'd put it at most 3 star depending on which floor you are on. I've stayed there several times for the convenience and the off street parking. Usually I stay on the top floors with larger rooms but that is around 1050 Baht/night but it is a large room and quiet. Cable TV also, not sure about WiFi though.

haha yes I don't expect guarantees of sunny weather! rather that buildings don't block the pool area from sunlight if it's there. (and actually one can tan in cloudy weather, too :) .

Park hotel's pool looks great but the location is not really central, which is why I have never stayed there. Maybe I'm asking for too much!

Thanks alant. I have checked out their website before and it looks beautiful but the pool area seems really small, with very little space for deck chairs. If anyone has comments about this hotel (or others) I would appreciate it!

The pool area at the Centara Duantawan is in the shade for much of the day and it also has a very shallow L-shaped pool that makes it perfect for young children to play games and and terrible for doing laps or exercise.

Another negative aspect is that another gym with the same owner closed recently and all of their members were switched to the Duangtawan. The place is packed with Thai teenage boys and it is difficult to get a locker and use many of the weights that they like to use.

I am looking for someplace that is better for swimming laps and not so crowded most of the time.

How about Imperial Mae Ping - anyone have info about sun at their pool?

Park hotel otherwise looks best pool-wise, though in all other respects it doesn't wow me.

If anyone else has feedback about the Top North pool that would be appreciated too!

I've stayed there before and it is very nice but quite expensive. Seems the pool area was similar to Top North or less in terms of exposure due to the proximity of the building.

I was using Google Earth to look for places with pools (they stand out nicely) and came across the Porn Ping Hotel and they say this. And of course for your night time entertainment there's Bubbles. :) The rates are not bad starting around 1099 Baht.

Pool Bar:

Located on the forth floor. Bathed in sunshine throughout the day, the pool and adjoining children's pool is open from 10.00-19.00 hrs. see gallery

Really cmsally? I've always considered Raming Lodge b/c it looks nice and prices are pretty low, but the pool doesn't look like it gets a lot of sun from the photos.

Tywais you're very clever! I never would have figured that out :) .

Pool is in the car park behind the hotel. No tall buildings or trees blocking the sun!

Actually for me (and pretty much all Thais) I'd be more interested in a pool that did NOT get sun most of the time. The pool in my compound gets sun completely all day so you can't really take the kids for a swim until 5pm or so when the sun isn't so strong anymore.

Thanks cmsally, sounds perfect.

Winnie, both of your replies to my threads are...unhelpful, but hey! Many people prefer to avoid the sun; I'm trying to achieve the tan lines my boyfriend likes before he touches down in Thailand in 3 weeks. Our preferences aren't really relevant to the question, but I guess it makes the thread more interesting!

Have you checked out the Chiang Mai Orchid Hotel.

I'm a regular at this place as a fitness club member.

Somewhat shopworn gym, but the pool is 20 meters, and sun all day from 9:30 AM to 5 PM.

Umbrellas available if the sun is too hot, and 2 gazebos for when it rains.

BTW, UG and Ventura Law....they have cleaned up this place remarkably since you were last there.

At least as far as the pool area.

All new vinyl covered chaise lounge pool pads, and new towels.

The gym equipment still sucks....but I mostly do weights, so the (occasional) broken-down stair steppers and treadmills don't bother me a bit....

Just don't let the recumbent bikes break down, or I'll be pi_sed off. :)

I have no idea what the room rates are. Google it. It's a 3 star (used to be 4) so I guesstimate 1200 B/night.

Next door to the Kad Suan Kaew mall, very nice location- walking distance to a lot of restaurants and nightlife venues.

Hope this helps.

Also not really relevant but...try to use your imagination blinky. I'm taking 2 separate trips, the later of which is a day before my boyfriend arrives...do the math.

Oh, how silly of me not have have guessed that you were taking 2 trips and that your boyfriend is arriving the day after your second arrival.

My imagination is running wild but the "maths" still makes no sense to my simple mind.

I am guessing that the boyfriend likes sushi, sunbathing and bald p***y. Am I correct? But location of the BW joint still makes no sense unless you want to get a real fresh wax job near the airport only minutes before the boyfriend arrives.

Come on now blinky, I really should report that. Not at all tasteful. Of course you shouldn't have guessed, I just meant that a) it's not really your business, so why bother asking when there are probably a million explanations. My boyfriend and I both love sushi (actually, I am still looking for an amazing sushi restaurant in Ch. Mai, know of one?), that's about all I will get into. I want to sunbathe this weekend in Chiang Mai; I want a brazilian wax on my next trip in about 3 weeks.

Now: anyone with a salon rec., please reply!

My friend and his wife who are visiting from the States are staying at the Orchid. The pool seems to get sun most of the day. It's a really nice big pool for laps, but it appears you are more about tanning (they have plenty of lounge chairs). My friend is paying 1,100 (breakfast, gym and internet are included), but he said they have an 888 Baht/night if you book for 10 straight days. As for location, you are close to everything (also right next to Central Mall).

I LOVE the pool at the Orchid. I would still be there except for one really dangerous spot to drive my bicycle every day. I figured I was going to have a problem crossing a major street with no stop signs or red lights sooner or later.

I changed gyms for the convienience of being close to my home and business.

Oh come on. Bike like this then, only easy left turns, or traffic lights. Walk across at the blue dots as it's one way there.
