Carryboy

Featured Replies

At the minute my Vigo is in having a Carryboy cover fitted. I read a thread a while ago that said extra road tax is due with this cover ( can't find the thread now ) I paid my annual road tax in March and am wondering if I have to go now and make an additional payment or is it only due at the renewal date? Basically don't want to give my insurance company an excuse not to pay out if needed if my road tax not valid....

I think you'll find that techniccally it puts the vehicle overweight on some tax brackets

I've had a carryboy fitted for two years and I haven't been charged extra on my road tax.

This one is always a good money earner for the BIB!. They will examine your vehicle paperwork to see if you have had the taxation changed. The weight of the vehicle is altered. You are supposed to go to the district taxation/license office to do this.

A neighbour had one fitted to his 4 door Ford Ranger and now he is taxed as a 7+ seater!.

Quite a difference from my 2 door pickup which is taxed as a commercial vehicle.

UMMMM. how is the the weight of the vehicle changed(for taxation) it is put onto the load bay SO just reduces your carrying capacity. also if you do not have the cushions/seats and aircon refit then it is NOT a 7 seater.

Also phutoie2 your commercial vehicle is not allowed in the outside lane on the motorways or elevated highways. good ehh

i was told if it has side windows it is classed as a people carrier and the tax class changes, the selling dealer should know, but as this is thailand i dont doubt they dont offer the details as they could be talking themselves out of business,. :)

Have you advised the tax office you have one fitted ?

I was actually stopped in bkk by bib and fined for carrying a load in the back,(under a carryboy ) ,. i dont speak thai but the gist of it was i didnt have a commercial licence plate,.the load was personal garden furniture,

BIB are <deleted>. I got told that i had to have the load covered and side rails when i had my bike in the back of the truck. 500baht fine (bike was securely strapped down). next time i'm just going to take the ticket. We all know they are lying bastards. I now just show my UK driving licence (I do have a Thai one as well) then usually they just wave me on. To much hassle for them i suppose. Allan

HMMMMMM!! Never paid any extra taxes for my Carryboy, guess thye lost me in the shadow, I may owe some past dues(???)

thaicbr cheers for that, thankfully they are not too many elevated highways and motorways in Amphur Wichien Buri :) . I take your point on board as I have driven to Samui and Swampybuum within the last year.

Not directly, but when I bought the car the Mitsubishi dealer registered it in Bangkok then last year we re-registered it in Chonburi, when the car had to be rechecked at the tax office (and after the carryboy had been fitted), and the tax has stayed the same.

Quick follow up: Went to the local vehicle tax office a couple of days ago where they weighed my truck, check VIN plate details and chassis number and had to pay an additional 125 Baht in tax. FYI the truck is a 4 door Vigo 4x4 and now weighs 1900kg. Extra tax is due to vehicle weight, at least that's what they told the wife.
